The Idiot Box is a cosmetic item for the Soldier. It is a crude robot mask made from a cardboard box with team-colored plastic cups taped on for eyes, and a coat hanger stuck to the top. The Soldier looks out of the hole cut for the mouth. It is the same mask that Soldier wears in the Bombinomicon comic.

This item can only be worn around Halloween or during a Full Moon; at other times of the year, it does not appear in gameplay, unless the server has Halloween mode enabled. However, it can be equipped at any time and can still be viewed on the loadout screen even when it is not visible during games.

• "Idiot box" is a slang term for a TV set.
• The Idiot Box was used as camouflage by the Soldier, the Heavy and Miss Pauling in the robot factory, in the Shadow Boxers comic.
• "Idiot Box" is the name of a Spongebob Squarepants episode in which Spongebob and Patrick use their imagination to have fun in a big box. During the episode, they reference a place called "Robot/Pirate Island", which may tie-in with the item's name.
