The Grenadier's Softcap is an unlockable headwear item for the Soldier released with the Polycount pack. It is a part of the 'Tank Buster' pack, which was contibuted by 'Larolaro', and appears as a worn out black cap. The style of the cap complements the grungy black textures used in the 'Tank Buster' pack.
As with all of the item set hats, Valve has stated they are going to create a specific crafting recipe for the Grenadier's Softcap.
Item set
This item is part of the Tank Buster set. When the entire set is worn, the set provides this additional bonus:
- +20% sentry damage resistance on wearer

Trivia
- The Softcap appears to be a M43 field cap They were primarily worn by German soldiers during WWII. It is possible that the Soldier took it as a trophy during his Nazi killing spree.
- The Softcap makes the Soldier look shockingly similar to Hoffman from the Gears of War series.
- This is one of the 2 non-event Soldier hats that allow players to see his eyes, the other one being the Dr's Dapper Topper.
It is unknown when the Soldier went to Europe to fight the war and in his character bio Valve claim he didn't know the war was over until 1949. This contradict the theory of the Soldier obtaining the M43 field cap in his Nazi killing spree since the last remaining Germans troops were forced out of Poland in March 1945 by the Soviet Union.
