— Scream Fortress

Mann Manor is the 2010 Halloween-themed Attack/Defend Control Point map introduced with the October 27, 2010 Scream Fortress Update. Along with Mountain Lab, Mann Manor won TF2Maps.net's Art Pass Contest for outstanding quality.

Mann Manor is set at night in the old, decaying mansion of Redmond Mann and its immediate surroundings.

The Pumpkin bombs from the 2009 Halloween-themed event make a return as do the Halloween pumpkins. During the round, a gift will appear randomly throughout the map, rewarding a class-based paper mask and the Masked Mann achievement to the first player to touch it when it appears. Mann Manor also exclusively features the first ever Template:W in the game, the Horseless Headless Horsemann.

The goal for the BLU team is to attack and secure all of the control points in strict succession and under the time limit, while the RED team must stop them.

Mann Manor is the first map to feature something like the Horseless Headless Horsemann – a giant, hostile entity that will chase and kill each member of both teams, one at a time.

The Horseless Headless Horsemann will spawn at whichever capture point is being disputed and will chase and attack one player randomly determined to be "It". Players who are "It" will be notified via an on-screen message and can be identified by a white skull and crossbones icon which floats above their head, similar to that of which appears over enemies that have been marked for death with the Fan o' War. The Horseless Headless Horsemann will chase the "It" player through the whole map until the "It" player is either killed, or passes their "It" status to an enemy by hitting them with a melee weapon. If the player manages to get into an area inaccessible to the Horseless Headless Horsemann, such as their team's Respawn, the "It" status will be randomly re-assigned to another player. Outmanuevering the Horsemann, which runs as fast as the Scout, will also make the player lose the "It" status.

Killing the Horseless Headless Horsemann is a difficult task due to its high health, and will require a good deal of effort and cooperation from both teams.

Easter eggs

There are nine rubber duckies hidden throughout the map. While previous statements claim this is homage to a gaming community Rexy belonged to, he has stated this was merely a fun Easter egg and was implemented instead by YM. There are also other hidden animals, such as a spider and frog.

Trivia

  • Tim "YM" Johnson, one of the developers of Mann Manor, is also known for developing Hoodoo. Hoodoo has also been made an official map, due to outstanding quality.
  • Mann Manor and Mountain Lab have the same layout as they are both winners of the Art Pass Contest. Mann Manor is considered the Halloween version of Mountain Lab, similar to how Harvest has a Halloween-style event version, complete with a spooky NPC.
  • Ghostly voices that spout phrases can be heard throughout the map. The most common one is "Natascha", but there is also a man laughing manically, a woman laughing playfully, and voices telling the player to "Stop touching stuff".
  • Players can actually see Redmond Mann sitting in his chair and turned away from the player in an adjacent, inaccessible room with his Life-Extender Machine through the RED spawn room closest to C. Using the noclip cheat to fly through the glass door will show that only the arm and cranium of Redmond are present from the front.
  • If noclip is used to move outside of the map, a small clearing with a farm can be found. The clearing has a striking resemblance of the painting of Granary in the manor itself. This is, however, merely coincidental.
  • If noclip is used to go past the door to the right of point A, the player can find a painting of Emily positioned on a wall.
  • Redmond's crest, which is embroidered on the tablecloths in the manor, is adorned with the words "UBER", "KRITZ", and "VICTORY". These phrases were likely placed by map developer, Tim "YM" Johnson, in reference to his Community Medi Gun and Community Kritzkrieg.
  • Originally, a version of the mansion chair prop existed with an animated sequence to make the chair "move" by itself several times over a 2-minute loop. This was cut from the shipped map, and appears only in the piano room of the contest entry version, artpass_ym.bsp.
  • A scarecrow wearing a Ghastly Gibus using the paint texture resides in the Pumpkin patch behind the BLU team's spawn room.
