Batter up!
— The Scout

The Batter's Helmet is an unlockable headwear item for the Scout. It appears as a team-colored, fibreglass batting helmet with a single ear-guard that fits over the Scout's regular hat. Despite the fact that batting helmets are worn to protect the batter from a ball to the head, the helmet does not prevent the stun effect if the player wearing it is hit by a baseball or offer any kind of additional protection.

Trivia

  • Roger Bresnahan created the first batting helmet after being struck on the head during a game.
  • A batting helmet covers the back, top, and sides of the head, and at least one ear. The Scout has the ear-guard covering his right ear, leaving his left ear with the headset free.
  • The left ear is covered for right-handed batters and the right ear for left-handed batters, whichever ear faces the pitcher. Since the Scout is a right-handed batter, he would seem to be wearing the wrong sided helmet. However, this could be because the Scout already wears the headset on his left ear.
  • Batting helmets were not made mandatory in Major League Baseball until 1971, making the Scout somewhat of a pioneer.
  • Even when this item is equipped, the Scout may still say, "Yo, I'm not even wearing a helmet!" on dominating a Soldier. That can be very ironic, especially when the Soldier is equipped with an all-class hat or the Sergeant's drill hat, since neither of them are helmets. The same applies to the Bonk helm.
  • Whilst the Batter's helmet is equipped, the Scout's default cap and headset piece is still visible from underneath, unlike the Bonk Helmet which completely removes the normal cap.
  • The Batter's helmet can be crafted into the Bonk helm by crafting it with two Bonk! Atomic Punches. Currently, it is the only hat which can be specifically crafted in this fashion.
