The Aperture Labs Hard Hat is a promotional cosmetic item for all classes. It is a white hard hat, sporting a potato-powered miner's light with a team-colored glow connected by two insulated orange wires. The side opposite to the potato sports two pieces of grey electrical tape covering an old Aperture Science logo.
This item has two styles, named "[classified]" and "Aperture Logo". The "[classified]" style keeps the pieces of tape covering the Aperture Science logo, while the "Aperture Logo" style removes them.
This item was awarded in Genuine quality to players who purchased the Potato Sack pack on April 1st, 2011 or owned all the games from the pack. It was also awarded to players who purchased the Potato Sack Reunion on June 13, 2012.

- This item is a reference to the "potato clock" or "potato battery", a popular science fair project where a potato is used to power a clock or other electronic appliance.
