How could this happen?
The Heavy

The Gate Bot Hat or Robo GateBot Light is a special hat that is exclusive to the gate bots in certain Mann vs. Machine missions on Mannhattan, or other custom MvM maps that use Mannhattan's gates mechanic. Instead of attempting to deliver the bomb, bots wearing this hat attempt to open up the gates on the map. Once all of the gates on the map have been opened, the hat's light shuts off and they attempt to deliver the bomb as normal.

For a brief period in time, a bug permitted the Gate Bot Hat to be craftable as a player Cosmetic. The hats that were crafted during this time were destroyed in the November 22, 2013 Patch, and were replaced by Glitched Circuit Boards as limited-quantity commemorative tokens.

Update history

November 22, 2013 Patch

  • Fixed a bug that would cause Robot "Gate Hat" items to be craftable. Gate hats that were crafted while the bug was active have since self-destructed and have become limited-quantity Glitched Circuit Boards as a commemorative token.

Unused content

  • There are four unused Gate Bot Hat models: two chest lights, a Fez-styled light, and one shaped like a bomb.
