The Scout

The Mercenary is a Miscellaneous medal wearable by all classes awarded by Valve to the Team Fortress 2 community as part of their 119th Update Celebration. It appears as a rectangular bronze medal worn on the class's chest, similar to the Gentle Manne's Service Medal. The Mercenary badge is awarded to players who purchased and played Team Fortress 2 more than a year after its initial release.

The item description was written by crushilista for the Hat Describing Contest.

Trivia

  • When the Mercenary was released in game, it was named "Weekend Warrior". Because some players considered the implication that they only played on weekends derogatory, the name was changed. The 119th Update Celebration page changed along with the name to reflect this, as it was with the addition of the Primeval Warrior.
  • The Mercenary was given out to users who first played Team Fortress 2 from 00:00 October 10, 2008 (UTC) onwards.
