The Mercenary is a Miscellaneous medal wearable by all classes awarded by Valve to the Team Fortress 2 community as part of their 119th Update Celebration, as well as the Soldier of Fortune and Grizzled Veteran. It is a rectangular bronze medal worn on the class's chest that shows the class's emblem in the center.

The Mercenary is awarded to players who played Team Fortress 2 for the first time more than a year after its initial release, from midnight October 10, 2008 onwards.

Trivia

  • When the Mercenary was released in-game, it was named "Weekend Warrior". Because some players considered the implication that they only played on weekends derogatory or had a low play time, the name was changed. The 119th Update Celebration page changed along with the name to reflect this, as it was with the addition of the Primeval Warrior.
