— The Sniper on pointy hats

The Lo-Fi Longwave is a headwear item wearable by all classes. It is an off-white hardhat with a miniature radio tower mounted on top and the KritzKast logo printed on the front.

The hat was awarded to players for being in the Kritzkast Steam Group prior to the 121st cast (on June 12, 2011) and for completing the Kritzkast quiz correctly. Players who did not win the quiz on their first try were given another try 24 hours later, and again after that.

Bugs

  • This hat has paint textures that remain unused.

Trivia

  • The hat's description is a tagline for Template:W.
  • In radio terminology, Template:W refers to parts of radio spectrum with relatively long wavelengths.
  • Lo-Fi, or Template:W, is a term which describes an audio recording with technical flaws, such as distortion, hum, or background noise.
  • During the Lo-Fi Longwave's development, the hat originally consisted of the radio tower mounted directly to the classes' heads. It was modified by Valve to use the same hardhat as the Aperture Labs Hard Hat according to dialog during Kritzkast episode 121.
  • During the announcement event, the kritzkast website went down, and as a result, the website and quiz was moved to [[1]]
