The Scout

The Mercenary is a Miscellaneous medal wearable by all classes awarded by Valve to the Team Fortress 2 community as part of their 119th Update Celebration. It appears as a rectangular bronze medal worn on the class's chest, similar to the Gentle Manne's Service Medal. The Mercenary badge is awarded to players who purchased and played Team Fortress 2 more than a year after its initial release.

The item description was written by crushilista for the Hat Describing Contest.

Trivia

  • This item was originally named the "Weekend Warrior" medal. The name was changed because it implied that the owners of the item only played on weekends, a description which may have been considered derogatory by "hardcore" players.
  • This item was given out to users who first played Team Fortress 2 from 00:00 October 10, 2008 (UTC) onwards.
