The Soldier on the correct usage of the Escape Plan

The Escape Plan is a melee weapon for the Soldier. It is a weathered and well-used pickaxe.

Once this weapon is equipped, it has the unique ability to increase the movement speed of the player as their health is diminished. However, the player receives 90% less healing from all Medic weapons while it is being wielded (healing from health kits and Dispensers is unaffected). While this weapon is deployed, players are marked for death, and remain so for a short period after holstering.

Its critical hit animation is a backhanded swing, striking the enemy with the pick end of the weapon.

Taunting with the Escape Plan out will perform the Kamikaze kill taunt. A variation of the taunt is available to players who equip the Lumbricus Lid.

The Escape Plan was originally added to the Team Fortress 2 Beta as the Beta Split Equalizer 1, and was consequently added to the game in the June 27, 2012 Patch.

The Escape Plan is automatically given to any player who owned an Equalizer prior to the June 27, 2012 Patch, with the same quality as the aforementioned Equalizer. In addition, if the Equalizer was customized with a Name Tag or Description Tag, the Escape Plan will inherit that customization.

Health range Speed (units per second) Relative speed increase Notes
330-161 240 0% No speed increase
160-121 264 10% Slight increase in speed
120-81 288 20% Faster than the Demoman
80-41 336 40% Faster than the Medic
