Giger Counter publicity blurb

The Giger Counter is a community-created secondary weapon for the Engineer. It's a device based on the M314 Motion Tracker from the 1986 film Aliens. It has a joystick attached to the top of the handle and emits a team-colored light that glows in the dark.

This weapon functions identically to the Wrangler.

The Giger Counter was contributed to the Steam Workshop.

Trivia

  • This item's name is a portmanteau of "Geiger counter", an instrument used for measuring ionizing radiation, and H. R. Giger, a surrealist artist who heavily influenced science fiction art and designed the Alien creature, among other things.
  • The design of the weapon is based specifically on the M314 Motion Tracker, a fictional tool that first appeared on the 1986 movie Aliens.
  • There was a glitch involving the Giger Counter and Shooting Star where they could be Crafted with tokens. It was later patched by Valve.
