This new medigun uses its Übercharge not for invulnerability, but to give its recipient 100% chance to fire critical ordinance.
Kritzkrieg publicity blurb

The Kritzkrieg (/'krɪtzkriːg/ kritz-kreeg) is an unlockable secondary weapon for the Medic. Similar in appearance to both the Medi Gun and Quick-Fix, it sports an additional fixture to the barrel with two glowing yellow lights on each side. The Kritzkrieg's beam has small yellow particles flowing into the recipient.

Functioning similarly to the Medi Gun, this weapon is capable of healing teammates and disguised Spies up to the 150% base health overheal limit. The Kritzkrieg's ÜberCharge is acquired similarly to other Medi Guns, however upon activation it bestows a 100% critical hit chance to the patient rather than invulnerability. While ÜberCharge is deployed, the Medic and his patient are able to capture points, push the cart, and carry the intelligence, unlike the stock Medi Gun. Additionally, the Kritzkrieg's ÜberCharge bar fills 25% faster than that of the Medi Gun.

When healing a patient with a faster movement speed than the Medic, the Medic's speed will be increased to match the patient, allowing him to keep up with Scouts, or teammates that have a weapon-boosted movement speed. Any kills that the patient gets is counted as an assist to the Medic.

Taunting with the Kritzkrieg equipped causes a Medic to perform the Oktoberfest taunt, which heals for 11 health over 4 seconds.

The Kritzkrieg is automatically given to any player who obtains 16 Medic achievements.

  • Taunting with the Kritzkrieg sometimes may not render the healing effects that the Medic inhales.

Trivia

  • The name "Kritzkrieg" is a pun on the term "crits", short for critical hits, and "Blitzkrieg", German for "lightning war" – a technique used by the German army in World War II. This is a reference to the Kritzkrieg strategy, which involves wiping the enemy team as quickly as possible, much like the Germans did with Poland in World War II.
  • According to a screenshot in the Gold Rush Update page, the Weapon was originally named Critzcrieg, but was changed to Kritzkrieg for the release in-game.
  • Before the Kritzkrieg was released, Valve stated in interviews that they were going to add the Overhealer, which could permanently overheal teammates to 200% of their standard health, but it would have a significantly worsened ÜberCharge or be unable to ÜberCharge at all. This idea was later canceled after play testing; however, the model for the Kritzkrieg attachment still bears the filename Overhealer.
  • The 25% increase in charge rate means a full charge can be attained in a minimum of 32 seconds compared to the stock Medigun's 40 seconds.
