The Demoman on dead horsemen

The Horseless Headless Horsemann's Headtaker is a melee weapon for the Demoman class. It appears as a rustic single bladed axe once wielded by the Horseless Headless Horsemann. It is covered in notches and sports a malevolently grinning face, similar to the face commonly carved on pumpkins for Halloween.

This weapon will only drop with the Unusual rarity due to the circumstances of acquiring it. It is essentially a reskin of the Eyelander; it deals the same damage, has the same function times, and has the ability to increase the player's speed and maximum health upon decapitating another player. Additionally, if the player manages to decapitate another Demoman wielding the Eyelander or this weapon, both the enemy's accumulated head count and the headcount of the Demoman who killed him, will have a head added.

This item can be crafted using the Unusual Haunted Metal Scrap, acquired from the Gored! achievement.

Trivia

  • Although the axe glows when the Horseless Headless Horsemann uses the axe, the same glow is not present when equipped.
  • Much like the Scotsman's Skullcutter, the axe does not have a taunt.
  • The same kill icon is used for both the Horseless Headless Horsemann and the Demoman when getting a kill with the axe.
  • Because the axe can only be crafted using the achievement-earned Unusual Haunted Metal Scrap, the Unusual Horseless Headless Horsemann's Headtaker cannot be traded, unless gifted by Gift Wrap.
    • Although some can be traded, this is likely a bug.
  • While equipped, the axe may randomly whisper "heads" during the game, just like the Eyelander.
  • The axe is currently the only weapon which can be unusual, and is not known to exist in any other quality.
    • Despite being labeled as an unusual weapon, the Unusual Horseless Headless Horsemann's Headtaker has no associated particle effect, although the fact that it is unusual and that the Horsemann's axe has a purple glow, this may be changed in a later update.
