The Medic on using dirty needles

The Overdose is a primary weapon for the Medic. It is a prototype Syringe Gun, with a white and team-colored needle disposal container in place of a needle cache.

This weapon deals 10% less damage than the stock Syringe Gun. However, as the Medic builds up his ÜberCharge, his movement speed while holding the Overdose will increase linearly from standard Medic speed up to 10% faster than standard, as long as the weapon is drawn.

The Overdose was previously tested in the Team Fortress 2 Beta as the Beta Syringe Gun.

  • The Overdose was added to the game under the name "Beta Syringe Gun".

April 28, 2011 Patch (Beta)

  • Increased Mad Milk duration to 2 seconds.
  • Damage penalty reduced to 50% (from 10%), which the Medic now gains health on hit.
  • [Undocumented] Medics can no longer coat teammates with milk.

June 17, 2011 Patch (Beta)

  • [Undocumented] Übercharge percentage increases movement speed by up to 10%.
  • [Undocumented] Syringes no longer infect the target with Mad Milk.

Bugs

  • The Overdose's trigger, unlike that of the other Medic primary weapons, does not move when it is fired and subsequently clips into the Medic's fingers while firing.
  • When reloading, the Overdose doesn't drop an air cylinder.
  • Occasionally, reloading only provides 4 needles rather than a full reload.
  • The RED version of the Overdose will drop if the Medic on the BLU team dies.
  • Overdose only gives movement speed bonus while active.

Unused Content

  • There are unique firing sounds for the weapon, in the GCF, that remain unused.

Trivia

  • The model for the Overdose was shown on the promotional image for the Double Drop Week hosted on June 3rd, 2011. [1]
