The Secret Saxton is a purchasable action item. It is a gift that, when used on a server, randomly selects a player and drops that player a random item. The received item will have "Gifted from: (Gifter's name)" at the bottom.
Description
The Secret Saxton is not tradable, craftable, or findable via item drop, as it can only be acquired through the Mann Co. Store. Upon its use, a random item is given to a random player in the current server, a notification is displayed to all players in the server and applause and cheers can be heard. The recipient will then receive an item as if it were a drop; that is, they will receive the item upon their next death or upon disconnecting from the server.
The Secret Saxton is used by either pressing the Use button in the backpack or by being placed in the Action slot of the player's class loadout, followed by pressing the "Use Item in Action Slot" key (default: 'H').
It is possible to simply join a server with just one other player in order to guarantee that they receive the gift. It is not possible, however, for a player to grant the gift to themselves.
Contents
Items acquired through the Secret Saxton will be marked as gifts from the user and timestamped with the receipt time and date. Most items normally found by drop (like weapons, hats and a few action items) are possible to be found as a result of a gift's opening. All gifts received are tradable and can be used in crafting. Unusual hats or Mann Co. Supply Crates cannot be found from Secret Saxtons.
Pricing
Compared to purchasing the Pile O' Gifts from the store using £ rather than $/€, it is currently cheaper to buy 23 individual Secret Saxtons - £13.57 vs. £14.99 for the Pile O' Gifts. Purchasing the Pile O' Gifts in $/€ results in a bulk discount of nearly 15%, but using £ results in a bulk surcharge of over 10%.
If the £/$ ratio of Secret Saxton prices is taken as a fair starting point, a fair price for Pile O' Gifts would be 20 × £0.59 = £11.80. However, doing this gives a chance for players to receive multiple items and others to receive nothing, as opposed to a Pile O' Gifts where all 23 players shall receive one item each.
Update history
- Gifts from Secret Saxtons and Piles o' Gifts now have a chance to grant a gift in addition to whatever item they would have granted normally.
