Show preview

Pictogram info.png Please make use of the Show preview button. It gives you a preview of the edit you are making, allowing you to perfect your changes before you save the page. You can edit the whole article by clicking the edit button at the top of the page, which is preferable to editing multiple sections consecutively. Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 21:31, 12 March 2014 (PDT)

You should see how much I am using that button on my sandbox subpages and contributions. Is there a problem? Ah, German/Germany, missed the typo, thanks. I usually try to remember to read my posts backwards to catch errors. Mikado282 (talk) 21:47, 12 March 2014 (PDT)
Also, on edits of existing material, use the Changes button to check for anything ugly that shows up in that view. Mikado282 (talk) 21:55, 12 March 2014 (PDT)
"You can edit the whole article ... which is preferable to editing multiple sections consecutively"
Well, I like to use the Show preview button a lot; so, writing just a section at a time saves a lot on the context switch. This is why I make so much use of the subpages in the Sandbox -- I can make multiple section changes without polluting the history of a public page. I've been known to copy paragraphs I am editing to my Sandbox and work on it there, especially if I don't think I can get it done in one quick sitting (some edits I make and then let simmer for days or weeks) ... or think I will think of one more thing to add right after I save ... Mikado282 (talk) 22:59, 12 March 2014 (PDT)
I just read Ashes' use of the Show preview template on User talk:DrPyspy. His additional comments made things a little clearer. I think the rank novice might not be familiar enough with wiki terminology and architecture to easily understand the point. I know I misunderstood User_talk:Darkid here. I think it takes a while for starters to realize that everything ends up on the Recent changes scroll, even Sandbox edits. Mikado282 (talk) 21:43, 28 June 2014 (PDT)

WAR! trivia

I may not be Piemanmoo but I can explain why in general what you wrote was not trivia

  • The fountain statue represents the Norse god Odin (Old One-Eye), holding his spear Gungnir, bearing his two ravens Huginn and Muninn ("Thought" and "Memory") on his shoulders, and sporting both an All-Father beard and an anachronistically horned rather than winged helmet. See also close-ups on Page 14.

Mere observation. Anyone can see this is a statue with these features it's not hidden or something that was not meant to be seen. The statue is plainly in your face and all you did was describe it.

  • Odin's quest for wisdom is never-ending, and he is willing to pay any price -- he sacrificed his eye for a drink from Mímir's well. As soon revealed in Bombinomicon (comic), Demoman desired bomb-making "wisdom" and it cost him an eye.

From what i see (after re-reading the bombinomicon comic quickly) Travish (Demoman) he did not actually want to read the book, he did not know of any price, he was a curious young boy at the time who got tricked and as an end result lost an eye. At the same time however i can see where you are trying to go with this but have seen trivia with stronger relations than this get tossed out because it wasn't note worthy.

  • Compare Demoman's reputation for heavy drinking to that of Odin, who ate no food, consuming only mead and wine.

Mere comparison. All you are doing is stating that the demoman drinks, that can be used to relate any problem drinking character. Sure they may do the same thing but this is just mere coincidence.

  • Compare Soldier's squalor and paranoia to Demoman's wealth and refinement, as depicted in this and later comics.

Um what? i kept trying to read this to get what you were going on about here. Either i just cannot comprehend what you're trying to say here or you didn't proof read this piece of trivia. Regardless, the word "Compare" just tipped it off as mere comparison.

If you wish to dispute the trivia further please read up on the Trivia Guidelines and then make a new topic on the WAR comic discussion page if you still think your trivia should be on the page.

Thank you for understanding RED Überneedle.png - Lexar - talk 00:16, 18 April 2014 (PDT)

While I would very much like to respond to your time and effort here, and I thank you for volunteering your advice; but the fist step, according to the Trivia Guidelines is to give Piemanmoo the opportunity to comment on his page.
"If the person did not leave a reason or if you do not agree with their reason, consider asking them for an explanation or elaboration on their Talk page."
As you are posibly aware; I have set my case out there. To discuss it here or at the WAR comic discussion page while the conversation is pending with Piemanmoo would not follow etiquette or follow the Guide. No, I have not discussed the last point (Solder/Demoman), there, but there will be time for that after resolution with Piemanmoo. Thank you for you offer of help, and I agree there may be some throw away. I hope to continue communicating with you on this at Piemanmoo's or at the War! page. Mikado282 (talk) 06:06, 18 April 2014 (PDT)
Say, Lexar, thank you again for your comments. I did discuss this with Piemanmoo. I do still have some questions. While I enjoy the conversation, and it would be within protocol, I do not think it would be seemly to open this up on the WAR! comic discussion. It is only Trivia and the last thing I want is any chance of any impression of a pissing match. However, if you would like to talk with me here that would be fine. Please, consider me compulsively chatty rather than argumentative.
In the Odin statue reference, my perspective was that I didn't think most younger gamers would recognize Odin. I camped with neo-pagans for twenty years and it still took me two years to bother to look closely at the actually rather strange statue. Maybe I'm am mistaken and in the 90's all the school children learned about Huginn and Muninn and all gamers read The Mighty Thor. Now, help me avoid the "Mere observation" pitfall in the future -- isn't Trivia like the first two points for the article also "Mere observation"? Anyone can see that some of these screens are references to "Meet the Spy". To me, that is obvious. The references are there and plainly in your face? So, is it also obvious and not noteworthy that several of the other screens are views from known camera locations on 2Fort or that three are views from the default spectator spawn point? Would not the camera views constitute an Easter egg hunt?
The rest of the points are throwaway and I agree weak, but I would still like to see just the Oden reference mentioned.
On my last point, I don't want you confused. I try to be terse in Trivia points. And maybe the point is both obvious and not noteworthy. And on reflection, maybe the point is more appropriate for a character profile than a Trivia section. What I wanted to write about was the contrasting personality traits of Demoman and Soldier, as portrayed in the comics. Soldier is crude where Demoman is refined. Solder eats delivery - Demoman makes proper tea for his mother. Soldier lives in cheap apartments, on the street, or as a unimaginably slovenly roommate - Demoman lives in a mansion. Solder is brash - Demoman is reserved. Soldier is insane - Demoman is rational. Soldier is threatening - Demoman is polite. I find the contrast interesting, but as I said above, such comparison is more appropriate for a profile or even a synopsis rather than a Trivia section.
OK. Travish initially had no interest in the book - he was absolutely not curious (almost to the chagrin of Merasmus) until he was told it was about bombs, then he had to peek. Travish was not tricked, he was tempted - Bombinomicon did not lie. Travish acknowledged there was a risk - he only peeked with one eye. But over thinking ... Welcome template

I saw you welcomed a user recently and don't know about the template that's usually used. The template that is used is . Just thought I'd let you know that - Davo (Talk|Contribs) 03:24, 8 May 2014 (PDT)

Thx. I knew or more correctly guessed that there was such a thing. Time was very short last night. And yes, I bet on a nice person doing what you did. What/Where are the instructions for use? Just paste in that subst template? Where? In the topic field? The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mikado282 (talk) • (contribs)
Here go bud: Template:Welcome, if you wish to add another language, put a /"language-code". (Ex: ) [Please preview it before doing it, because not all languages have been translated. Also, never forget the ~~~~ :). I just don't know if you can greet people with the language that they've been editing even though you don't speak it (I forgot to confirm that on the IRC Channel). Gabrielwoj (talk) 18:38, 25 May 2014 (PDT)
Hey, thanks! :) Yeah, I would think the rule of thumb would be to not talk to strangers in their language unless you know you speak their language better than they speak yours (I guess one doesn't have to speak the welcome script). That rule is tough for talking with Germans or Brits -- their language or dialect is so fun.  :)
I've welcomed once a person with the "de" language, after that, I wanted to ask about this on IRC, but I ended up forgetting. A person which edited "es" stuff those days I've greet him in English anyways. Gabrielwoj (talk) 19:11, 25 May 2014 (PDT)
boop boop, chiming in Yes, indeed - please only use the lang welcome templates if you speak the language in question. As for what language versions are available: /de, /es, /fi, /it, /ja, /nl, /pl, /ru. User Zabidenu sig.png (contribstalk) 19:26, 25 May 2014 (PDT)
Thanks for the note and sorry for my mistake, do you want I go back and edit his usertalk to the instead? Also, I plan to translate to pt-br as well. Someday... Gabrielwoj (talk) 19:30, 25 May 2014 (PDT)
Nah, don't bother. Not a big deal anymore, just keep it in mind in the future. User Zabidenu sig.png (contribstalk) 19:48, 25 May 2014 (PDT)
Gotcha. Gabrielwoj (talk) 20:13, 25 May 2014 (PDT)
OK, before I mess it up. Usage: "Add Topic" then paste in in the wikitext window? Then do I still need to type ~~~~? Mikado282 (talk) 20:21, 25 May 2014 (PDT)
Yea, go to his UserTalk, got to edit or add topic, and put this. Preview it before you save. I always do that, even that I copy and paste the subst:welcome. Don't put the info on his UserPage. Gabrielwoj (talk) 20:46, 25 May 2014 (PDT)
Ya, itz verking! Danke! Mikado282 (talk) 18:45, 29 May 2014 (PDT)
That was weird. So, also senses the user's language settings. That sort of answers Gabrielwoj's question, do I user the user's language? The template makes that decision for you? (forgot to check preview :( ) Mikado282 (talk) 06:55, 31 May 2014 (PDT)
You can add the language , however, you should only greet him in his language if you have knowledge of it. If you don't know his language, greet him with instead. Gabrielwoj (talk) 07:09, 31 May 2014 (PDT)
I went back and saw I had made a stupid cut and paste error; instead of

I say, "PNG"; you say, "png".

For some reason, some of my png file extensions were upper case and I missed them when I uploaded them today.

  • How big of a deal is it?
  • If they have to change what is the best way forward?

Mikado282 (talk) 18:32, 8 June 2014 (PDT)

thanks for the help

Just giving the memo thanking your contribution. I Personally don't think it needs to be removed but that doesn't mean I haven't considered your thought about the Medic and Scout mvm.

The Mighty Anus (talk) 06:43, 23 September 2014 (PDT)

Yeah, I got lost in the normal mess of the community strategy articles. Sorry I moved it. If I find typos or grammar issues in your edits, would you prefer that I mention them in your talk page or that I just make the simple edits? (note: mis-capitalization of it in "... more damage, It can ...".) I would also suggest that the MvM edits you made today should only have single bullets.
I find it interesting that User:WindBOT forces the knockback to [knockback]]; but the change the BOT made is correct; the wiki automatically capitalizes the first character as needed, so I learn that the format I entered was not necessary to prevent redirect. Mikado282 (talk) 19:00, 23 September 2014 (PDT)

Oh please you shouldn't really need permission to do minor edits but having said that, if were to redo everything then yeah I would like it to be mentioned. Feel free to ruin everything jk. It's not like you were doing for the shits and giggles. The Mighty Anus (talk) 14:01, 24 September 2014 (PDT)

About your questions

On the tank page that your recently edited you asked some questions on it so I am here to answer them

1) The tank is fully bot controled from the moment it is spawned in and you have no control of it once you choose it's spawn point

2) You cannot spawn in payload carts into other game modes without plug-ins so I have no idea of their behavior

Hope that is enough infomation for youPadacuw (talk) 18:13, 20 June 2017 (PDT)

Thank you. I had always figured that it worked like a bomb cart at fixed speed on fixed, invisible tracks. If you made and added a demo video of what you tested, I would watch it. Now that I mention it, the article is missing a video of the tanks in MVM combat (there may already be a suitable one uploaded). Mikado282 (talk) 19:14, 20 June 2017 (PDT)

Hi me again

Hi you seem to be an experienced and friendly guy so I was wondering if you could explain to me how to request a merge as I am fairly new and don't know much about the site.Padacuw (talk) 18:54, 23 June 2017 (PDT)

I would start at Help:Maintenance templates. Hmmmm...pitiful guidance there. Template:Merge at least has one useful sentence; I have never started one, but that looks right. Put the tag on the page you want to disappear into another. Also, add a topic for the merge to the talk page of that page.
When there is is no guidance here, guidance from Wikipedia can help; lots of instruction there.
Here is one of my secret techniques: Google this
site:https://wiki.teamfortress.com "merge"
There are no active examples of merges going on; but this search will bring up TFwiki talk pages where mergers were discussed. Mikado282 (talk) 19:39, 23 June 2017 (PDT)

Big thanks

I saw you edited Hellstone map page a quite a bit. Thanks for that. Had fun reading it and the things you added, you got almost everything on it correctly how i thought it out! -ics

You're welcome. And, thank You! Such a kind compliment from the developer! I figured even if it is not official Storyline, there is at least a map Storyline (I couldn't help but think of the still unidentified figure in the Family Photo). Let me know if there is anything you want me to correct or add. I am giving Brimstone a similar treatment (if you don't mind); I have done some work on it and have a lot more to do on it; but real life has intervened, again, for a few months. I really do like Hellstone a lot. I especially enjoy the lengthy narrowness of the Road to Hell and the collection of good starter-level jumps available to RED team. The combination of so many access ways in such a tight location makes Monoculusmos Monsterinus interesting, too. Mikado282 (talk) 19:10, 19 August 2017 (PDT)
No prob, go ahead for Brimstone too if you like. I also have something coming up in my sleeve for this halloween but i'm not too confident that i would get a 3rd map in a row to the game. Thanks again! Ics (talk) 02:39, 20 August 2017 (PDT)
Re. 12.5% in the blurb. In single-player testing, I have not seen HHH for some time and ever see MONOCULUS, I can't quite assume that the odds of either appealing is 1 in 8. Merasmus doesn't always appear, but it is much more frequent than the others.
Also, I want to add "shake" and "poison gas" to Environmental death. Are there more appropriate names for those effects? Mikado282 (talk) 05:26, 22 August 2017 (PDT)

There is a system that picks randomly 1 option of 16 total selections on upon capture of B or C points for HHH. This means that 2 of the options are HHH, the rest are just howls. This is where the 12,5% comes, as the HHH can spawn when both points are captured, if the players are really unlucky or doesn't spawn in many rounds at all. Same stats go for monoculus on D capture. 2 options are monoculus, the rest are dummy sounds.

Merasmus appears only when there is a game where the cart stays between final cap and D cap for a long time as in time spent there between 6,666666666666667 minutes (400 seconds) and 7 minutes (420 seconds). There is a hellish joke hidden there with the number 666. Anyway, then the merasmus comes and tries to finish off the game by either helping or making it harder. Depends how teams work on him.

The shake and poison gas you are referring to are more like earthquake and hot steam coming out from the hell under the world. Those things happen around between A and C points only. Let me know if i can help you out more. Ics (talk) 07:57, 22 August 2017 (PDT)

Thanks. I can work with that (when things ease up here). Is there a minimum player count for any spawns?
On Hellstone, should I bother spectating around the back of Red Base next Halloween to see what that hidden Ghost does? Mikado282 (talk) 11:38, 22 August 2017 (PDT)

Minimum player count - what do you mean by this? There are 16 spawns per team in each spawnroom. As for the ghost in hellstone, it's not exactly hidden, just out of sight. It has it's purpose when the cart starts dropping to the pit. The actual ghost in the cart gets replaced by that hidden one and it starts going down to the pit. For technical reasons, i couldn't make the one in the cart move as it is tied to the cart itself. Ics (talk) 14:04, 22 August 2017 (PDT)

Re. Minimum player count: On Eyeaduct, MONOCULUS spawnings require at least 10 players on the server, yet only one player is needed on Hellstone. I have yet to to see MONOCULUS spawn for only one player on Brimstone.
Thank you for the explanation of the hidden Ghost. Worth a note at some point. Mikado282 (talk) 18:02, 22 August 2017 (PDT)

Ah, that one. The way Valve spawns the bosses is different from what we can use. They have functions in the game that allow certain things that we cant do. So we do it the raw way, which doesn't enable such fanciness as taking count of players or knowing when the boss is actually dead in the map. But stuff works, thats the main thing. Any boss can spawn despite players being 1 or 4 or 20. Ics (talk) 08:45, 23 August 2017 (PDT)

    • I haven't completely tested the underworld destinations of Brimstone: I see an area I assume is for MONOCULUS teleports (I haven't seen MONOCULUS in testing) and the other area is for when the calliope is playing (is this the same place you go if you jump in the Bombinomicon when you beat Merasmus? (I think I managed that once))
    • There is a general problem in collective treatment of the "underworld" locations, they don't seem to be consistently named, so I wonder how you named them on both maps. This presently makes for a mess in Environmental death.
    • Effectively, there are just a few types of underworld; where you go when you use MONOCULUS teleport jumps, where you go when you beat the boss/win the round/take Bombinomicon jumps, and where you go to deliver souls etc. They really only differ by how you get there and the buffs you get when leaving.
    • I am a little disappointed that it is "steam" and not "poison gas", like hydrogen sulfide. Well, volcanic steam often has hydrogen sulfide (which condenses into yellow "brimstone", IIRC). I may just call it "vapors" in the Environmental death section. Mikado282 (talk) 16:34, 24 August 2017 (PDT)

The underworld itself is 2 part, the first part where you exit from the skull is the "purgatory" area, which in hellstone was the area where you go from upper way to down to the white door. Here, you exit by the big portal. This is the place where you enter when going either through monoculus warp portal or the coffins when the music plays to get those rare spells. The other area is the loot area, where you enter by either beating monoculus or merasmus itself. Difference in hellstone was, that these 2 areas, purgatory and loot were completely separate areas while in this they are united as one, but separated different. The underworld/hell itself is vague thing, and used in different maps in different ways. Valve uses underworld name for areas of water and hell for areas for lava. Both work the same entity wise.

The steam can be gas, but its coming from the ground itself while there is steamy visual effect and lava bits coming out of the ground as well as shaking. It doesnt matter what it really is, but its gonna hurt you if you stay in it. Ics (talk) 12:59, 27 August 2017 (PDT)

Big thanks for the time and information you've given me here. I think I can see the underworld/Hell distinction, still there is not really a clear usage from map to map for places you get transported to for different reasons. Where it gets to be a problem for an article is when a map has two more more underworld destinations. (others can weigh in) I have looked for discussions on the this topic but have found none. I may make a cataloging of the underworlds -- maybe I wasn't thorough enough on Halloween map. (then there is overworld) For the Brimstone (map) article I am working on, I think I can get away with "Hell island" and just talk about the two sides without trying to name them.
If MONOCULUS is defeated, does the portal go to the "loot" side?
"Those (steam) things happen around between A and C points only". I have seen it also near the dump truck, I have wondered if it is a local effect or not, does it happen at only one place or at all of the listed places at the same time?
Steam for volcanic gas might be a translation factor (Kummitus); yes, volcanic gas is mostly water vapor, but it is not the water that is the main hazard, but I will go with (scalding) steam.
I can't work on it this weekend, but I might finish Brimstone next weekend. Mikado282 (talk) 18:46, 31 August 2017 (PDT)
OK, I was going to go to bed early tonight (for once), but after 20 some rounds last week of HHH no-shows I get him twice back-to-back. HHH will take swings at skeletons. Yes, steam hits all three places at the same time. Mikado282 (talk) 20:26, 31 August 2017 (PDT) 19:15, 5 September 2017 (PDT)

Saving the environment one step at a time

About your latest edit on environmental death. First off, neato job, pretty concise and well done.

Got a few questions/concerns though.

For steam, you wrote this:

The time and area of effect is indicated by a rising cloud of vapor and fluid splashes (cf. Pumpkin bomb explosions).

Should we change that "cf." a bit? I'm gonna be honest, I had no idea what it meant until I searched it up. It's sophisticated and all, but I have a feeling not many people browsing a wiki made for a first-person shooter video game will be as educated in that as you are (e.g. me). Not the biggest issue though, so doesn't matter much if it stays.

Then for shake. Before I say anything I guess the first thing that needs to be cleared up is the definition of "environmental hazard" in this case, or mostly just "hazard". Obviously shake doesn't do any damage, but as you pointed out, it does disorient players, and could theoretically give a tactical advantage to one team.

If it does stay, well, there's the other issue of that it exists for not just Halloween maps, but also lots of others. Big example. Payload maps. Cart falls in the pit, boom, a large shake for a second. It's not a major gameplay element and doesn't affect much, but it's there. Also, there is the console command "shake" that emulates the effect, not sure if that deserves a mention (probs not).

The effect may be available for other maps as well, but I can't think of any right now except for the cart explosion.

Lastly, you made this edit:

=== Merasmachievements === (formatting is off, sorry)

For reference, "T table" was previously "Achievement table".

Unfortunately, Template:T table does not exist, so I've replaced it with the original unless you want to revert/fix it.

Anyways, that's all for now. Keep up the good work. You've done me proud. ⇒Leaderboard class spy.png Anyar (talk/contributions/giveaway) 15:26, 6 September 2017 (PDT)

I bounced the idea around in my head for a while. 1) first thought of where to put it was here, especially if it still broke Sniper and Ambassador charges, but yes, its kind of like a critical stickey jumper, all the pushback but 3 times zero damage 2) it does tie closely with severe environmental hazard, as a warning of impending severe injury (this Halloween, I want verify that the shake precedes the instant death by MONOCULUS spawning.) 3) it could be its own article, (if not already actually covered somewhere) but that would be way down my to do list. Mikado282 (talk) 19:11, 6 September 2017 (PDT)
ooh, we got a professional technical writer here
should we at least include a link to the wikipedia article or something, because for whatever reason i only thought to google it while writing this and not before
you said "T hank" for "T table" haha xddd
ok, so shake will be left there for now; however, what about the fact that it exists on other (e.g. payload) maps
currently your "list of maps that have shake" only has halloween maps
dont think it really deserves a standalone article anywhere, in any case as you said not high priority ⇒Leaderboard class spy.png Anyar (talk/contributions/giveaway) 17:00, 7 September 2017 (PDT)
  • Yeah, lately I have been splitting my time between hydraulic valves and Badlands Mountain Lab rockets.
  • Link for what? cf.? Nah. I did replace it for you.
  • It doesn't have Doomsday? Doomsday has big shakes. If it isn't single-stage payload, Halloween, or a few if the newer CPs with high win count achievements, I haven't played it much, so I will rely on others here. But I don't think of the Payload explosion as an example of shake. It's an explosion. Mikado282 (talk) 19:54, 7 September 2017 (PDT)

k, didn't catch those, got it.

In this, is the "from" in the quote's description needed? ⇒Leaderboard class spy.png Anyar (talk/contributions/giveaway) 12:23, 7 October 2017 (PDT)

Thanks for this thread. ICS gave me an ice cream cone for that edit! (and approved the creative license) But, it's a shame to have spent 40 some hours on the article over two months, some nights just to tired to edit for even an hour after coding then painting all day (11-12 hours), and checking it front and back 3 (or more times) times, and still having so many missing/wrong words. :( Thank you for the fixes.  :)
I really appreciate you working with me on Biggy Wiggy, you really made that joke work! I have been holding on to that card since 1969 and finally got to play it.
Oo! Oo! Oo! Can you also also find the clip for the Great Prophet Zarquon? (the 1981 TV series) That would really make the joke. It fits Merasmus, you think?
The "from" felt like the shorthand way to say "excerpt from the" workshop description. Workshop material is not canon on this wiki, that why I feel free to correct the second-language capitalization.
IMO, the quote shouldn't be much bigger than the image. Mikado282 (talk) 17:41, 7 October 2017 (PDT)
@Anyar: re: from: I mean, I felt a need for a brief qualifier. If you think the "from" is unnecessary or could be replaced with better wording, I'm open to it. Mikado282 (talk) 10:23, 8 October 2017 (PDT)
i wanna ice cream cone too :( glad to hear!
Darn, I really appreciate all the effort you're putting into this. You're like the technical overhaul guy for the wiki right now. A few words isn't bad by far for such large edits especially when the content is still amazing.
Biggy Wiggy!
For the 1981 TV series? Probably not. If you want, you can try to find it in the 2005 movie if it exists. Here's a link to the full movie on YouTube and in case it's needed here is a link to the script with the famous quote at the end. I've never watched the movie or read the book so I'm unfamiliar with the scenes.
Quote size makes sense.
I only pointed out the "from" because pretty much every other quote on this wiki just removes the "from" entirely, e.g. it's always "-Meet the Spy" instead of "-from Meet the Spy".
Cheers! ⇒Leaderboard class spy.png Anyar (talk/contributions/giveaway) 15:22, 8 October 2017 (PDT)
"Er, look, I'm sorry I'm a bit late. I've had the most ghastly time, all sorts of things cropping up at the last moment." That sort of fits the situation I think. I might be able use it if Gravestone gets released this Halloween.
Here's the clip! :) In Hungarian. Zarquon próféta eljövetele
I appreciate your thinking on "from", I agree that it is understood with out it on the video quotes, but I felt that in the case of workshop descriptions, I should not imply "the" (whole) workshop description.
Thank you again for your kind words. Mikado282 (talk) 16:07, 8 October 2017 (PDT)
Oh, that makes sense. Yeah, that does indicate that it isn't the full description. Nice catch, and no problem, mate. ⇒Leaderboard class spy.png Anyar (talk/contributions/giveaway) 16:41, 8 October 2017 (PDT)

Thanks for taking over map pages

I used to do the map pages myself, so I'm really happy to see someone doing the hard stuff like locations in my place. You know how to do screenshots?

Also, what's your nationality. I nominated you for a Wiki Cap, so I wanted to know for the table. --User Dr. Scaphandre Golden Ghastly Gibus.png Dr. Scaphandre 16:41, 22 October 2017 (PDT)

U.S.A. When I get the chance to get to the computer to edit, all the active senior editors have logged out.
Thank you. How do the screen shots for Hellstone and Brimstone (map) work for you? They are just screen caps in noclip. They aren't the best resolution. I have never really bothered with the in-game screen save. Mikado282 (talk) 16:49, 22 October 2017 (PDT)
The map articles usually take me weeks of stolen (not so) spare time. The last two location stubs are incomplete so they took only a few hours of exploring. Am I stealing your date? Mikado282 (talk) 16:55, 22 October 2017 (PDT)
Alright I got your nationality down now. Thanks for that.
The screenshots actually really need a lot of work. I noticed your targeting cursor is still there, and they're weirdly cropped.
What you should do is input every one of the console commands here as they increase the quality of the screenshots and make them a lot more professional. I would recommend you try this out with the new maps then redo your old screenshots with this method. Also, don't use the ingame screenshot. It turns them into low quality JPEGs. Use Print Screen instead. That'll make the screenshots into higher quality PNGs instead, which is what we like to strive for. Then just use editing software to crop the image if the print screen got some parts it shouldn't have. I always use GIMP for my editing. --User Dr. Scaphandre Golden Ghastly Gibus.png Dr. Scaphandre 17:08, 22 October 2017 (PDT)
I try to do most of my shots in spectator for much of the same reasons some of the commands in that list. But on maps like ICS's, I have to be a player to trigger some events, so these commands will help. I have cropped out a lot of crosshairs, weapons, and HUD for that. That alone will improve a lot of quality. I have always used screen print. I have been bothered by my screen resolution, and have been concerned that my quality was limited by that. Maybe other image quality commands will help that. The croc picture I couldn't get correct and will try this, so, let's try that again.
The stub Locations in Enclosure and Mercenary Park, are just that (I wonder if I should have doubled down on the Stub tag and put an explicit one in the last two Locations). I wanted to influence the future contributors to follow the themes the mappers built into the maps. Pictures may come later, I really don't have shoot set up in my head yet. Hellstone wrote itself, Brimstone much less so, and I haven't had enough time with the new maps to figure them out. Mikado282 (talk) 19:19, 22 October 2017 (PDT)
So, I tried all of those console commands, but no improvement, lots of pixelation. I assume it is my resolution. I have just not try the new laptop, only moderaly better and I am not ready to switch over to running on it. Mikado282 (talk) 20:02, 22 October 2017 (PDT)

Got something that could help you involving contract stars

Hey man, I got the VTF for the Contract stars and uploaded it, so now for the future instead of typing 'star', we can put an image in, you know, to spiff some things up. I feel these will be used in the future for other updates that give contracts. MikeMan2332 (talk) 09:22, 1 November 2017 (PDT)

Contract star.png

Thank you. You know? When I was first writing the ConTracker instructions, I thought it would be nice to have that star. Also the Blood Money dollar sign and even the Blood Money ticket roll.
I will be traveling for a bit, if I do anything tonight it would be to start the split vote for ConTracker, but come to think of it putting a star in would be more fun. Mikado282 (talk) 11:13, 1 November 2017 (PDT)

Alright, made an insertion image of the Contract Star. Contract Star Baboom! Not as hard to make as I thought it would be, will do the same for the blood money dollar signs and ticket rolls tomorrow, my laptop doesn't have tf2 on it. But my pc tower does, (which by the way is where I got the image from, the game files) AND when you hover the cursor over the icon, it shows 'Contract Star' in case the user doesn't know what it means. MikeMan2332 (talk) 19:59, 1 November 2017 (PDT)
I committed the Jungle Inferno ConTracker / ConTracker split. I haven't used your decorations yet, its bedtime here. I would like image insertions for the orange dollar signs. I just want the Blood Money image for the Blood Money section in the ConTracker page. Mikado282 (talk) 19:44, 5 November 2017 (PST)
So, the orange dollar signs that represent the rewards, similar to the pyroland and all of them having the box icon representing item award. And you also want the blood money image, should I make it able to change its appearance due to blood money having 3 different icons for the size, or just keep it to the 3rd image, which is a big roll of the stuff. Oh, should I also upload the contract emblems ( the circle with balloonacorn for the pyroland contracts), we can put them on the page to allow users to understand what it is, or at least add more images to the contract pages. My bad not responding for 6 days, was a little busy. MikeMan2332 (talk) 05:29, 7 November 2017 (PST)
Image insertion templates for dollar signs and cubes. Unsure of a use for an Image insertion template for the Blood Money images, maybe just a single roll or a single ticket by itself. I do want a full image of the Blood Money (lower left of the ConTracker) for the Blood Money section in ConTracker. Who knows if the next Campaign will use the same icons or colors?
I am also having trouble locating the new (since Meet Your Match) main page icons and new signs for the new Jungle Inferno maps in the vpk. Mikado282 (talk) 11:20, 7 November 2017 (PST)
hmmm, if it isn't located in ui, then probably valve removed it, I believe they're code for the backgrounds work by 5 images, and once a new update is out, those old update images are replaced. Its like that for other valve games. But you're luck there are many preservers here on the wiki, if you cant find it in the files, try finding them in the update category. But I was checking the jungle inferno category with the list of items, pages and files that had the category of that update, and what do you know, I found one of the old meet your match background. Also take note that Team Fortress 2 is unique by other games for the fact that many groups of developers at valve have touched it and left it. The guys who made meet your match highly left afterwards, or few of them left, but the new team that made Jungle Inferno were the ones who chatted with Tyler mcvicker (Valve News Network) and/or the team of 2 programmers, and the rest are artists or modelers. MikeMan2332 (talk) 05:57, 8 November 2017 (PST)
Oh yeah, also as it seems someone else implemented the blood money, but seems they're going with the item icon style instead of the small icons that the Contract Stars appear. But I will work on those other icons you requested tonight. I'm going to make the icons black, due to most of them are white in the files. Probably because they re-color them whenever they're completed, or you're right about them using other colors in the future. MikeMan2332 (talk) 06:02, 8 November 2017 (PST)

Rottenburg/Monster Bash see also addition.

I was wondering, what does Rottenburg and Monster Bash have in common that needs to be in see also? It may look similar, but i honestly don't believe it should be there. User MrJohnson Signature.png MrJohnson (talk) 01:51, 29 October 2018 (UTC)

The connectection is at the Storyline level. There are certain references in the maps and Comics that suggest Medic's activities from just before Blood Brothers through his reappearance in Blood in the Water (his "fancy job", if you will). In the former, Blutarch is seeking male pregnancy technology; while after Medic's reapearance the latter, medic has clearly perfected reanimation and male pregnancy, using xenotransplantation in both. Rottenburg and Sound of Medicine introduced Medic's Reanimator technology in association with the Frankenstein theme. Monster Bash makes/continues such suggestions by including Medics chalkboard study other reanimator, naming the PD delivery point the Reanimator, and presenting Dr Hale as a surgically reanimated being.
All that said, the fact that both Maps make strong Frankenstein references is reason alone for the See also connection, IMO.
M I K A D O 282 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃 🎃🎃 🎃🎃 (talk) (To Do) 17:51, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
For clarity, we could also add the relevant Comics to the see also list with the local hatnote that it is the Medic's suggested Reanimation/Xenotranplantation/Male pregnancy/Frankenstein arch.

Update checklist

Just wondering, is there something like a checklist for pages that need to be updated for every update, or is it all tracked manually?

I noticed that the Mann Co Store purchasable/non-purchasable items template hasn't been updated in ages, and the list of community contributed items is lacking a lot of things. The map stamps/strange filters page need an update as well. Andreng (talk) 10:44, 9 November 2018 (UTC)

>is there something like a checklist for pages that need to be updated for every update,
Sure, first line of Help:Contents: Team Fortress Wiki:Update Checklist.
> or is it all tracked manually?
I would have to think so; I have never seen any sign of anyone ticking off the line items; but I can't rule out some interested grown-ups or editorial cabal monitoring things.
> Mann Co Store purchasable/non-purchasable items template hasn't been updated in ages
IMO, that shows the fundamental flaw of the concept: "Purchasable items" is wholly redundant to the actually store, and the actual store has people paid to keep it current and accurate. If anyone else thought the section it worthy of deletion, I would support that, but don't let my opinion influence you unduly. Consider this, these tables were started circa 2011-2011, but were not updated for years in spite of many changes to the catalog (and best of original intents), with only a spate of updates around 2016. I think there is another list like this somewhere (again, redundant and unmaintained, and unrememberable (to me, FWIW) ) that I tried to discuss deletion. OTOH, there may be other editors happy to see this updated. The rest of the article may do with some cleanup and updating, perhaps with more coverage of the distinction between the in-game store (open) and the online store (closed "forever").

Talk:Operation Memes vs Machines: "List of memes" reply

"Each robot model in the waves represented a meme. I was too busy with the waves to really try to figure out any of the memes. I hope someone could come up with a list of all the memes and a gallery of the meme robot models."

I don't think that a list of "meme robots" should be on the main Operation Memes vs Machines page. I do think, though, that meme robots and references should be done in a "Refrences" section on specific Memes vs Machines missions. It's simply isn't really worthy of being on the main page. Pyro emblem RED.png BeingAwesom Pyro emblem RED.png (talk · contribs) 20:18, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
I am fine with lists and galleries elsewhere than the main Operation Memes vs Machines, which is why I suggested a link to wherever they end up. OK, the objective was to create "meme missions", so it may be the mission itself that represents the meme; I was under mistaken impression that the individual bots represented different memes (maybe some did, I don't know).
I see how class bot pages are set up (Soldier Robot), maybe that is too much work for this event. I am not to keen on seeing what the combat attributes were. This was such a unique event, I would like to see it preserved. I would think that the creators would like to see their work presented.
Still, I think any heading would be "Memes", rather than "References" (I don't think these were meant to be subtle winks).
I appreciate that this could be a LOT of work.
M I K A D O 282 oOOOOo oo oo (talk) (Help Wanted!) 23:26, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
Okay, two things. 1. We've already found a way to represent every "meme robot", or rather "custom robot". On the WelcomeToMyMine page, a section titled "Custom Robots" was created which showcases each custom robots' stats and physical appearances, as well as strategy on how to defeat them efficiently. 2. I think the heading should be "References", as some "memes" used within the missions aren't so much memes, but rather references to metas and other things of that sort. Once again, WelcomeToMyMine has multiple references to the Two Cities Mann vs. Machine meta, which, in my opinion, isn't really a "meme-worthy" subject, though it should still be mentioned somewhere in the page for people who don't know the meta. Also, "References", in my opinion, sounds much more professional than "Memes".
1. Good, my only issues is that I never really look through the details of the waves, even now that I am playing MvM again. I am rather OK with just learning under fire. What I do want to see is all of the memes, which I admittedly get just by running down the Class list, yeah that works, thanks all! 2. OK. 3. I would still hope so see a gallery of the bot models special to the event. (alt-F)4. Hah, that is like the first in-game joke I saw in the game talk! New Users/Help Wanted!

Hey Mikado, I have two things that may or may not be related to you.

The first is, as you might have seen, the soundtrack section. I have been working on expanding these articles. Since I know you tend to be pretty active with new users, I want to say that if you come across any with musical experience, it would mean a lot to me to send them my way. I ultimately want the wiki to be a library of knowledge on these songs, and while I can handle guitar, bass, and piano decently, people with brass and woodwind experience can be hard to find.

The second is about new users in general. I am very interested in involving myself with newcomers and with your Help Wanted! projects in general. I feel that I'm in a good spot to help, since I have quickly learned my way around the wiki, but I don't have a ton of large commitments like some of the more tenured folk around here might. I try to stay active in the IRC as much as I can, however never hesitate to reach out to me or send users my way or whatever works. As for the Help Wanted! stuff, I feel most comfortable starting out with some of the map projects. I will be free for most of the weekend, so I should start work on these fairly soon. Reach out to me on Steam, Discord, or the IRC if you need me! Thank you in advanced. Senmithrarin (talk) 04:34, 19 October 2019 (UTC)

Thank you, don't need my permission. Can't be on the IRC much these days (I just worked all of this weekend), about all I do is policy this wiki a bit. You can friend me on steem and chat with me that way. M I K A D O 282 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃 🎃🎃 🎃🎃 (talk) (Help Wanted!) 00:56, 21 October 2019 (UTC)

I have read my talk page and moved everything I hid in the actual page, to here instead. All the required info you need to know about each of the stuff I hid is all included here. Not everything here may be worth showing in the actual main page, maybe?:
Long range melees can't pass through the Projectile Shield
[video demonstraton https://youtu.be/uwDRny39mEY]
-- It was claimed this was true, but I thought something wasn't right, and went to test it on a Demoknight with 5x melee range.
-- As the video and its description shows, there is no possible way to get this to ever happen in a Valve MvM mission or a proper balanced community MvM mission.
Yeah, the mistake was mine. Through Memes, I was thinking that the PS stopped all bots, not just Spies and Scouts, and I was getting repeatedly killed by Eyelanders, so ... but you are right. -- MIKADO282
Charging Projectile Shield by patient's damage to robots
[video demonstraton https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W476-8JetW8]
-- Based on the guide (or the guide in the video's description), if a Medic's currently healed patient deals damage, it will contribute to charging his Projectile Shield. If the only way to recharge the Projectile Shield was this method, then the patient will need to deal 4k damage to fully charge the Shield.
-- Any damage will counts towards the charge: Sentries (when healing the Engineer who built it), Melees, Special Effects like Bleed, Taunt Kills, etc. Even healing a Medic using the Projectile Shield counts.
-- There is an limitation to this however: In a patient's single hit on a single target, they cannot charge more than 250 damage of Shield charge at once.
---- So for example, let's say a Medic is healing a Soldier using a certain AoE weapon that will always deal 500 damage to enemies.
---- If said Soldier hits a single target, he will give only 250 damage worth of Shield charge to the Medic, despite dealing 500 damage.
---- If said Soldier hits three targets in a single hit, 750 damage worth of Shield charge will be given to the Medic instead.
-- With these in mind, in theory, healing these classes in these conditions would build Projectile Shield faster:
-- Note: Each of Heavy's bullets and Pyro's flames all count as individual hits.
---- * Giants: Minigun Heavy (each of Heavy's bullets all count as individual hits, avoiding the 250 point limit)
---- * Tanks: Flamethrower Pyro (Pyro's flame particles also count as individual hits)
---- * Crowds: ** Rocket splash Soldier, ** Grenades / Sticky Demo, ** Explosive Headshot Sniper (and Explode on Ignite Gas Passer Pyro :L)
---- * Distant Robots: Engineer (Sentry Guns don't have damage falloff)
For the above, we can make a bullet list, adding some explanation to each point.
The thought I had for this was strategy comments for Medic (in addition to discussing the mechanics in the main): "Realize that your best patient for building Energy changes moment to moment; Heavy when he is shooting a nearby Giant Robot, Solder when he is splashing crowds, Pyro when they are burning out a Tank, Engineer when the Robots are a ways off, etc, "
-- MIKADO282
-- Any other class is only decent, but it may depend on their subclass, such as Damage Scout > Support Scout or Bowman < EH Sniper
-- The only exception being Spy, he deals all of his big damage in one single hit.
Vaccinator Constant Shield Exploit: (includes useful info for other Shield related stuff that can be documented)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Z8hw4EW2lE&t=1s
-- Something else that's also not well-known, even among community MvM players that try and use different MvM weapons.
-- The exploit invovles the Vaccinator Medic using one of his Resistance Bubbles on a reanimator, which provides about ~90% of the patient revive's health to the reanimator. Since the Projectile Shield can be charged with healing, this immediately cuts a lot of time required to charge the Projectile Shield.
-- According to the video, a Projectile Shield takes 400 healing / overhealing to be fully charged, but when healing reanimators, the Shield's build rate is double, effectively halving the 400 required healing for a Shield to 200.
-- Revive health also increases with every resurrection, so having a class with high revive health is not a hard task.
-- Revived patients also fully regain all sorts of ammunition, with some communication:
---- The Medic's patient can constantly attack without ever needing to go for ammo kits or dispensers.
---- Scouts can easily regain access to Mad Milk jars, and Spies can also easily regain access Sappers.
---- More viable to have someone die for a bodyblocking Heavy to keep his ammo refilled, letting the Heavy be able to constantly bodyblock without losing ammo.
^^^ something for the Strategy page -- MIKADO282
There was a WIP damage table that I hid in the actual page too. I'm not an expert with Wiki Templates, nor is familiar with the intended style for damage tables, so hopefully someone better could help out with this table.
-- Damage is calculated thanks to TF2 providing a command for calculating DPS, thanks TF2! Commented out "attack interval" because I don't think it would really benefit anyone but modders.
-- Shield's damage was tested on regular robots with lots of health and knockback resistance, with none of us moving around. In a real game, the damage might vary because bots can move and may jump.
-- The actual Shield's damage iirc is 1 /tick for LV 1 shield, 3 /tick for LV 2 shield. Also due to Maths with numbers involving .00 digits, LV 1 Shield with mini-crits as shown by hud_damagemeter 1 says its doing the same damage. Batched damage text gives the same result.

  • Do Sentry Gun Quadrockets count as one or four hits?

M I K A D O 2 8 2 ❄❄❄❄❄ ❄❄ ❄❄ (talk) (Help Wanted!) 23:28, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
I have been notified of the notification and here are my words
"Is the 1-3 damage vs tank while 66-133 damage vs bots?"
Nah, it deals 1 damage every server tick at LV 1, 3 damage every server tick at LV 2. No one can possibly determine how fast is a server tick, so I changed the damage table to show Shield's "Damage-per-Second" instead. The damage it deals to Tanks and bots are identical.
I also thought it also would be better to slightly change how the damage on Projectile Shield's WIP damage table is shown.
"Do Sentry Gun Quadrockets count as one or four hits?"
Sentry Gun's Quadrockets technically count as one hit. The quadruple rockets are all considered as a single entity TF_PROJECTILE_SENTRYROCKETS, so all four of them counts as only a hit.
"::Yeah, the mistake was mine. Through Memes, I was thinking that the PS stopped all bots, not just Spies and Scouts, and I was getting repeatedly killed by Eyelanders, so ... but you are right."
Maybe these bots had special attributes? Projectile Shield cannot stop Demoknights from charging through it; there exists an attribute in the game where it causes Demoknights to not stop charging when attacking. (PS change their fate to be vaporized from existence anyways.)
There's also some recent strange findings I found, they don't matter much and really only would be seen in community MvM missions though.
Medic's Projectile Shield Stops Rockets in a way unexplainable through normal means
[video demonstration https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4s5cW1gh_NI]
-- Only happens with Rockets. The Rocket has to be shot from above the Projectile Shield and must hit a specific area on the Shield.
Sticky and Projectile Shield
Something I don't have a video about. Only seems to affect Stickies.
-- Stickybombs automatically explode when they come in contact with the Projectile Shield.
-- When Stickybombs are made to explode using the Projectile Shield and were also at the front of the Projectile Shield, robots around the front of the Shield will not be damaged by the Stickies's explosions, but the Demoman who owned these Stickies will be hurt from the explosions.
---- If Stickies were automatically set off by the Projectile Shield, but they were behind the Projectile Shield, bots will receive damage as a player would have intended.

Been thinking of that "patient damage to shield charge conversation" while under the curse of sleeping in class, I think it might be better to show that the Engineer excels in something else rather than shooting far away robots? Or maybe just exclude him entirely? Usually an Engineer is a bit behind front lines, and a Medic is healing other offensive classes at the front to keep the defense. Sometimes Medics do get a chance to heal the Engy, but they can't do it for long and will need to maintain survival of the other teammates, and if those teammates fall, usually the Engineer's Sentry will also be destroyed afterwards or Engi hauls it and fall back to another chokepoint.
The other examples are more of a general situation while the "distant robots" is more of a specific situation, and Engineer sometimes might not be the absolute best choice in all situations involving "distant robots".
For me, I instead see situations other than shooting distant robots where an Engineer can build decent PS charge (assuming the Sentry is LV 3, and the Medic doesn't has to bail on his other active teammates to temporarily pocket the Engy):
-- Taking out crowds of fodder robots like swarms of Bat Scouts, but usually a Soldier and Demoman is around for that and they likely are to be near the front lines.
-- Wrangler Engineer's Sentry Gun against giants, they usually place their Sentry Gun in a way that it bodyblocks the giant robot.

User MCandRBfan flus no.png lol MCandRBfan (talk) 16:25, 3 January 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, I think you're right. Your engineer is really a secondary after your for primary PS charge targets. You only really try to build PS charge on the Engineer when you don't have the others to charge on. Maybe there's a time you want to tap the Scout, but he is usually not around. But don't forget about your Engineer, the Medic is often between the frontline and the Engineer is at least good for an overheal when you're caught up on everyone else. ( Naturally, in lulls in the action, switch to building your PS charge on speading the overheal around.) M I K A D O 282 ❄❄❄❄❄ ❄❄ ❄❄ (talk) (Help Wanted!) 19

So I did some research and experimentation with the Projectile Shield (along with suggestions on what to test from the people I asked), and I thought I should put the trivial things I found here first.
Charging Projectile Shield
- The Mad Milk Syringes upgrade for Syringe Guns does not affect PS charge.
- Crusader's Crossbow heals has no effect on the PS charge.
- Amputator's Medicating Melody heals affects PS charge! And also seems to recharge quite a bit faster than the Medi-gun (except Quick-Fix maybe), somehow.
Bots pathfinding AI with Projectile Shields
Something that's been known among veteran MvM mission makers, is that bots think the PS is a "wall". I decided to look into more of this and know more about it and when does it exactly happen.
- When bots are inside the PS, error messages about their path is blocked are printed to the console, but they'll still try to walk through it anyways.
- Very slow bots or slow bots with big boundary boxes (collision boxes) may have a chance to think they might be actually stuck and not try to move.
-- Though this may only can reliably happen with BLU Projectile Shields, since RED Projectile Shields can deal damage knockback to bots "stuck" in it and push them out unless they're a Boss Robot with 100% knockback immunity.
Here's a video of what it would look like if the rare case of bots getting stuck in the PS happened.
Oh yeah, one more thing, if the patient of a Medic injured themselves in some way (e.g. Blast Jumping), it gives the PS charge lmao

I haven't the time to figure it out in detail. I have noted that the first half (two fifths), while very straight and linear, it does have a series of "side pockets" for lack of a better term in mind which seem important to play. I particularly noticed Engineers trying various effective plays in them, but I am not knowledgeable enough to write on it. The first half has a lot of open distance AND high relief, so, it seems to give opportunities for players who can make long AND high jumps. On the other hand, the second half is dominated by several short flank where the cart pushers have to go the long way around. A question

Hello there Mikado. Now, I don't know if I should be asking this question to you, someone else, or if I should even be asking this question in the first place. But I was wondering something... Can I change the status of strategy pages on the Community Strategy Project? You know, that section which says wheter the strategy page in question is: up to date, has content but is incomplete or needs work. I know that this is a trivial thing to ask, but that section seems really outdated and it would be nice if it could be corrected. In many instances, it says that a certain page is "up to date", while the page itself is clearly stubbed and needs a lot more work (Badwater, Barnblitz, Frontier etc.). While in other cases, it says that the page "is new and incomplete", despite the page in question being OK (Mercenary Park for example). I also want to do this in order to create a true list of pages that need updating, as I'm embarking on my project to expand all of the map strategies. Lolimsogreat21 (talk) 21:17, 23 July 2021 (UTC)Lolimsogreat21

I am the most active amongst those openly confessing to be contributers to the Community Strategy Project; so, you are not wrong to ask me. Yes, the status table is incomplete, so please, update best you can. I am sure some are out of date. Is there an entry for each of the new maps from last year? Try to figure out how the status indicators are supposed to work (That's what I had to do (reverse engineer some and innovate some)) IIRC, Tark created the templates.
A particular issue with the map strategy pages is the erroneous inclusion of general class and game mode strategy that has no place on a map strategy page. A recent incident of this was this week on Hoodoo Strategy, I patrolled a recent edit violating this rule and left a message for the OP. I observed that most of the Strategy for Hoodoo has nothing specific for Hoodoo and should be removed, and thought I should fix it sometime. You could give fixing that one a shot.
There is no real reason or value in bulking out a Strategy page just to bulk it out. If no one has any particular specific team or class strategy, then it is perfectly fine to leave blanks; better blank than fluff BS.
A particular example is Halloween event maps; noob editors thought they were doing a service just copying the strategy from the original map, causing maintenence issues and distracting from event-specific strategies. Please, feel no pressure to place tactics on blank classes just because they are still blank.
Feel free to add and SM me for questions or reviews as there can be wide gaps in my patrols, and I have much more access to SM than to the wiki.
I should review the status of Mercenary Park to see if there are any pointers to offer.
M I K A D O 282 ⊙⊙⊙⊙⊙ ⊙⊙ ⊙⊙ (talk | contribs) (Help Wanted!) 23:23, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
Well hello there once again! So glad you responded.
I am quit aware of the ever increasing amount of "too general" strategies among the map pages. Hence, one of the reasons for me deciding to update and expand them. I also intruduced some new status indicators, such as: "The content of this page is too general". In hopes of warning new editors visiting the project's page.
However, another major problem I found within the map strategies are the inconsistencies among them. As far as I can see, no other editor has so far attempted to bring all of the map strategy pages together (Which is understandable, considering the sheer amount of them). This left a multitude of individual editors as the main "force" updating and upkeeping the map strategies. The result of this are a group of pages, closely linked together, yet so different in style duo to the hundreds of people (Aight, that may be an exageration) editing them over a period of years. The quickest way to solve this is to rewrite the "most different" of the map pages, in order for them to be more consistent with the remainder.
I would like to update the Hoodoo page, but I've never played that map before and don't have access to my laptop at the momement. Meaning that I can't play the map myself and see how it works and operates, in order to develop a successfull strategy for it.
And the last thing I want to adress for today is the SM. Im sorry, but I really don't know what that is or means. Care to explain, please? Anyway, that is all I wanted to say with this message. You brought up some nice points and really got me thinking about certain stuff. And thank you for allowing me to change the status of strategy pages. They were really overdue for a change.
Lolimsogreat21 (talk) 23:05, 25 July 2021 (UTC)Lolimsogreat21
SM == Steam Messaging
"The content of this page is too general" No, not really. A strategy page is not suppose to have information that belongs on other pages. (No page suppose to have information that belongs on other pages.)
How is the Mann Manor Strategy too general?
* The General HHH strategy and the X vs HHH table applies only to Mann Manor.
* On all other maps with HHH, the strategy is to avoid the HHH and not shoot at it. (See my update to the stub tag.)
* Otherwise, yes, the map is completely missing map-specific tactics.
"Too general" does not literally mean "too much non-specific strategy". An incomplete review indicates about half of the strategy on Foundry and 5Gorge is not specific to the maps and should be removed. Any non-specific strategy is technically too much. The message on the project page should read, "all strategy not specific to the map should be removed." And take care in deciding which to remove or keep, something on the face that may seem generic may actually be specific with a little rewrite (e.g., it maybe fair to point out that a map has an unusual open space, so general class open-space tactic could be broadly mentioned).
There is no need to write strategy for any map. I will go ahead and make an example of Hoodoo.
Be sure to spellcheck when submitting to the Main Space.

Also, I would like to mention one more thing before I go. I can see that you began a wiki project called "Community notability project". Regarding this project of yours, I think that It would be a good idea to add a natability status which tracks wheter the page has been rewieved or not. Could you do me a favour?

Hello Mikado, could you do me a favour please? As you're (probably) aware, I'm trying to completely rewrite the entire Goldrush strategy article and replace the utter junk on it with something better. Recently, I've managed to finally finish that damm rework and it's currently sitting in my sandbox. But before I release it into the Main Space, GrampaSwood asked me if I could "run it through" other editors, just to check for any spelling mistakes and biases. Luckily for you, I've already grammar checked the entire page, so you won't have to worry about that, for the most part at least... All I'm asking is if you could try to spot any "biases" inside my strategy, as well as to give your thoughts on the page itself and how you could improve it further. I'm unfortunately aware that my new Goldrush strategy still isn't the best, or even good per say... But I'm constantly trying to improve my writing and grammar, so I hope that you won't be too harsh towards it.

Community Strategy Project.

Hello, I am The Pissineer. I am a bit new to this wiki, but I have tried to help the wiki a bit. I added some things to some of the map strategies that are unfinished, and while doing this I came across the Community Strategy Project. After looking around in it I saw that you guys needed to recruit new contributors to the wiki. I think I could make a great addition to the team and help you guys out with typing out strategies for classes and maps. As I am still a bit new, I do not know if I am supposed to talk to you about getting recruited, or if your supposed to talk to me first. Hey. Hi. Everyone is welcome to work on strategy. Strategy has been set up so that anyone with single useful technique can easily add it. The project should be a resource rather than a guild or cabal. I am looking at adding reminders to that effect to the project.
One of the first rules is that is that each strategy really has one place to be (e.g. Strategies for playing Payload have a single place, and should not be duplicated on all Payload map strategy pages).
Another particular point (and this is not yet well-indicated in the project page), map strategies aren't intended to be complete Steam Community Guides on how to best play a map. So, if no one has come up with a good pointer for a given class on a given map, that is fine.
AFAIU, the project was not created to fill in blanks, rather to cleanup massively disorganized, poorly-written and redundant strategy.
When I am finished mall walking and get home I will look at what you have contributed so far.

Yes, for the most part, "You did well!".
Weed Killer is just reskinned dead player drop", and some of the Medic and Pyro strategy is probably already covered or should be covered in Community Player Destruction strategy. Please, check. Move if appropriate.
You might have gotten a little tired by Graveyard (I was).

Alright, thank you for the information, Surprisingly, Pyro has nothing listed on his Community Player Destruction Strategy, but I will go ahead and move it over, and neither is the Medic strategy I put in it. Thank you for the info and I'll go ahead and move it over. The Pissineer (talk) 11:48, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

Regarding those edits to the Administrator.

I knew that copying parts of one article into another was not a good idea. But creating two similar articles is not good either. Thank you for your attention. Far (talk) 17:14, 6 November 2021 (UTC)

Administrator is about the NPC and focuses on the Storyline; Announcer is about the role, which is held by various NPCs, and focuses on the game mechanics -- combining the two was leading to a clumsy page. Yes, there may be residual Announcer material on the Administrator page, and residual Administrator material on the Announcer page; but that is the reason for the stub tag.
Also, please, reply to talk messages where they are originally posted.

Enclosure posters

Hello, I was looking at the list of posters page and noticed the stub you added at the top saying that enclosure posters should go on the map page instead of the list of posters page. Why should the enclosure posters be on the enclosure page instead of the list of posters page? There is no other map page that has posters on its page, so shouldn't the enclosure posters go onto the list of posters page instead? The posters have already been uploaded but aren't on any page, I just want to know why the posters go on the map page instead of the list before adding them. It is a complement to the guideline that you don't want to have the image of a poster on every page of all the maps it appeares on, that being, if the poster appears only on one released map and has nothing to do with any other (non-variant map) then it should only appear on that map's page. It is a simple way to separate a collection of super specific and notable posters from a pile of super generic unnotable signs.
A few years back, I almost nominated List of posters for deletion as non-notable, but then I realized that is was effectively a Trivia page, and that while many or most of the signs and posters are not notable, several do qualify as Trivia. IMO, List of posters used to be a totally lame page, now, it is somewhat less lame.
Many of the Enclosure posters are not lame because they are strongly tied to that one map's theme, and so have a strong relationship to each other and no relationship with any other sign or poster. And as many of them have Trivia references, those references are in cases already covered on the Enclosure page.
Yes, it is easily seen that some Enclosure Companies are in List of companies. Again, most of these are already commented on in the Enclosure page, where they should be. IMO, their appearance in List of (TF/BLU/RED/Mann Co) Companies is redundant and a TVIO (misplaced).

"There is no other map page that has posters on its page, ..."
  1. Enclosure is uncommon (but not unique) in having many posters worth uploading, but are related to only one map. So, by that factor, one would not expect many examples of posters on a map page.
  2. However, examples do exist. Swiftwater, Wutville, and Bread Space each have at least one sign or poster uploaded (if not from the game files), and there are many more single-map signs and posters to upload to those pages.
So, it is really a matter that we haven't actually exercised the option to upload a map's unique signage to the map's page.
Bread Space is an even better example of the issue than Enclosure; the signs and posters that can be uploaded are the ones that reveal the map's Storyline. Why would we tell the Bread Space Storyline on List of posters?

"What was I (not) thinking!?" 2Fort Invasion is an excellent example of how map-specific posters are uploaded to the map's page rather than to the List of posters!

I updated the tag on List of posters.

Ah ok, thanks for clearing up my question on the posters. I uploaded posters from Swiftwater onto the list of posters page without realizing they were specific to the map. When I'm able to get back to my main computer, I'll delete the Swiftwater posters from the list and put them onto the map page itself, along with adding other story/map specific posters from maps. Many thanks for the clarification. Andrew360 Taunt Rancho Relaxo.png 02:28, 11 June 2022 (UTC)
Thank you. I also wondered about the Invasion tease posters. They may have appeared on many map's during the ARG, and they may already be on the page for that event/Patch.
In the lead for List of posters, I think I would like to see a list of linked pages that have thematic posters. OEMMV.
