Function Breakdown
By clicking any of the nine class portraits the player is taken directly to their Loadout of the respective class. The four icons along the bottom Backpack, Crafting, the Mann Co. Catalog and Trading will take the player to those sub-menus.
Loadout
The Loadout is the primary usage of any Items you unlock or obtain. For all of the nine classes you can selected the equppied weapons, cosmetics (hats and misc items) and Action items.
Generally the weapons on the loadout are broken down into three slots on the left of the screen, Primary, Secondary and Melee. The Spy does, however, have a PDA slot for the watches instead of a secondary slot. The order that weapons take in their loadout slots is not always the same as when playing as that class, most notably the Demoman's primary and secondary slots are switched. The right three slots are for headgear, miscellaneous items and an action item.
The action item will perform its function when are playing as that class and press the bound Action Button, by default H. Action items can include duelling mini games, noisemakers or special taunts.
On mouse over any of your currently equipped items a small window will appear containing the statistics and description of the item, similarly whilst in the Backpack. This information can be seen at any time in the Mann Co. Catalog. Below the class the net player attributes from all your equipped items is shown for a quick overview.
Backpack
This Backpack is the player's personal inventory of unlocked and obtained items in the game, stored on Valve's severs. Using a click and drag system within a grid and multiple pages players can arrange, manage and edit items to their liking depending upon what contents they have within it. The items stored in the backpack can also be used in Trading and Crafting.
Crafting
Crafting is the process that allows player's to combine items they have in their backpacks to create new items. Using crafting blueprints more desired outcomes can be obtained, such as to craft a specific weapon. It should be noted that not all items can be crafted.

It will also allow a quick link to the listing of an item in the Mann Co. Store if available additionally a link to the respective page on the Team Fortress Wiki (through the "Community Comments" button).
Trading
The Trading sub-menu will allow a player to exchange items with other players directly through Steam friends, current server player or a Steam Community ID url. Some items are unobtainable through trading.
