The Fists of Steel are melee weapons for the Heavy which were originally created in the Fancy vs. Nasty Update. They appear as a pair of large robotic gauntlets that encase the Heavy's hands. They reduce damage from all sources that are not melee-based, instead of just ranged damage sources (i.e. projectiles) as indicated in the weapon description.

Previous changes

December 21, 2010 Patch

• The item was added to the Mann Co. Store, made craftable, and included in random drops.

Bugs

• Parts of the Heavy's hands clip outside of the Fists of Steel when viewed by a player from the outside world.
• The Fists of Steel makes the K.G.B.'s draw sound.
• Damage from taunt attacks are also reduced, even if they appear to be a melee attack, allowing the Heavy with the Fists of Steel equipped with full health to survive any and one enemy taunt attack other than the Decapitation, Dischord, or Fencing taunt attacks.
  • The Sandman's Home Run, Pyro's Hadouken, Heavy's Showdown, Gunslinger's Organ Grinder, Übersaw's Spinal Tap, and the Huntsman's Skewer do 200 damage to a Heavy wielding the Fists of Steel.
  • The Engineer's Organ Grinder taunt only does the 200 damage at the end, the one-damage hits during the initial stab are mitigated to zero.
  • The Soldier's Kamikaze taunt appears to do slightly less damage (between 183-197). This may be because of a possible splash damage falloff.

Trivia

• The name "Fists of Steel" may be a reference to the Heavy's (unused) line for unlocking a new weapon.
• The original Fists of Steel also came with a unique sound set, making the fists seem more robotic. In the game, however, they retain the same sounds as the Killing Gloves of Boxing when being equipped but the punches have a custom metallic sound.
