Info

First revealed at GC '06, this trailer showcased the various abilities of Team Fortress 2's player classes. The trailer, since it is showing a early rendition of the game, contains several differences from the final product:

Changes

Class

  • The Scout is wielding a Nailgun, from TFC, which was replaced by the Scattergun in the finished game.
  • The Soldier's Rocket Launcher has a rocket sticking out of the end when loaded.
  • The Demoman is shown throwing an MIRV, instead shown as a package of dynamite. This would be stay-over from Team Fortress Classic, which was removed from the game following beta and replaced with Stickybombs.
  • The Demoman's ability to remotely detonate his Grenades hadn't yet been moved to his Sticky bombs.
  • The Demoman's Grenades from the Grenade Launcher didn't flash.
  • The Heavy's Minigun firing animation includes an even more cartoonish muzzle flash coming out of the barrel.
  • The Heavy's movement speed is much slower in the finished game.
  • The Engineer's Shotgun firing animation is slower and more "Choppy" and shells can be seen ejecting from the side.
  • The Engineer's Shotgun also fires more than six shells.
  • The Engineer's viewmodel Wrench animation is different.
  • The Level 1 Sentry Gun has slightly different textures, a different firing sound/building sounds, builds at a slower speed, and has a higher rate of fire. It also has a muzzle flash, unlike the simple recoil the gun has now.
  • The charge symbol seen when the Sniper Rifle is zoomed in has a different design.
  • The Spy's Knife has a much longer and more intricate switching animation.
  • The Spy has a pocket on the left side of his suit which isn't present now.
  • The Shotgun shows that casings are being ejected.
  • When the Spy cloaks, he doesn't have his team color transition.
  • The Intelligence isn't spinning around as it does in the final game.
  • The emblems on the class' arms are solid circles instead of class emblems.

2Fort

  • The 2Fort bridge is uncovered.
  • The spawns have a separate exit and entrance like in Team Fortress Classic.

General Changes

  • The explosion graphics are different in the finished game.
  • Far less blood when players are gibbed.
  • The bone-cracking sound for fall damage is different in the finished game.
  • Footstep sounds were recycled from Half-Life 2.
  • All characters have the same voice and stock dying noises including the infamous Wilhelm scream.
