Map making time!

As promised, here's a guide to making maps in TFC. Now, this will be a part 1 of the whole guide, for part two I am planning a brief video tutorial for you. But for now, a simple text guide will make do.

So let's get started!

First of all, you will want to download something called QuArK. It's a map-making tool and miles better then Valve's Hammer editor. Quark is found here: [1]. Simply download the latest version. If you get a security warning from your Windows defender or what not, it is fine, you can ignore it.

Then you need to download the necessary compilers, or the exact things which I am currently having problems with. The only compiler for Valve games which I know of is the ZHLT, found here: [2]. Click on the download button and then click to download the newest version called Vluzacn's ZHLT (VHLT). If for some reason the page doesn't load, you can download one of the older versions below. Just make sure to pick the right one. If you have a 64-bit computer, then you obviously won't want to download the 32-bit version. There is also a Linux version further down below, in case you aren't using Windows. Once you download ZHLT/VHLT, you will first need to extract it into a folder, since it will come in the form of a compressed (.zip) file.

All right, now that you have acquired all the right tools, we need to properly configure them. Click to open Quark launcher, run through the setup process if you already haven't and then open it. Once you've opened Quark Explorer, click on the edit button at the top of the screen and then click configuration. Then, scroll down until you reach Half-Life and click on it. On the right side of your screen, you should see Game Settings appear. Under them, there will be an argument called: Directory of Half-Life. Click on the three dots on its left side and select the folder in which your Half-Life executable is located. Once you've done that, click on the Add-ons button directly below. At this point, it might give you a pop-up telling you to switch to Half-Life game mode. If you haven't already, click OK. Anyways, click Add... and select the two TFC folders which will appear. Those are: prefabsTFChl.qrk and HLTex_TFC.qrk. After doing that, simply click OK.

Then, scroll down below the Game Settings and the Map Editor Settings until you reach Build Programs Execution Sequence. Remember that ZHLT/VHLT file you've extracted? Well it contains four programs called: hclsg, hlbsp, hlvis and hlrad. Now, you have to simply connect these programs to Quark. So, scroll a little further below until you reach 1st program. Head over to the argument ...program executable (path optional) which should already be filled out with HCLSG.exe, indicating that this is where the hclsg program goes. Click on the three dots beside it and browse until you reach your extracted ZHLT/VHLT folder, where you will select the hclsg program. Do this for the remaining three programs. Once you've done everything, click Apply and voila! You've successfully configured Quark.

So...how is your map making going? Have you managed to get yourself familiarized with Quark? Can you place, resize and texture brushes? If not, I can also teach you that. And while on the topic of Quark, what is your progress on the demonstration map? If you remember, we said that we would both create each own map and then show it to the community for choosing. About textures, don't go crazy. A simple "x meters" grid on everything that is not a sign will do it. And for signs, something made with paint will. Anonymus0 (talk) 19:39, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
Hi! Sorry, I'm still getting use to QuARK, since this is my first time using a mapping tool, it takes me time to learn how to properly use it without any guide asides from youtube videos. Moreover, some real life stuff that I have to attend. But don't worry, if you feel you made progress or if your map is ready, we can continue with your submission, and I can try to run it in HL1, since it may take me some time for me to make a map. Help in contact original creator of Hot Wheeler


I'm doing demonstration video for Hot Wheeler, but found some inconsistencies about the special animation's flame effects between the original creator's demonstration video and other people's video including mine (1, 2, 3). I saw you had contact with the original creator before in the talk page, do you still have contact with the original creator now? Would you mind asking them again if the flames missing is a game bug or intended?

Shortstop Page Edits

Enforcer page edit

Hello there, On the weapon page for the enforcer, there is a trivial note listing the revolver's real life inspiration. However, this is false because the gun claimed by the trivia section is completely visually different than the in-game appearance of the Enforcer. Also there's another note about a real world movie character wielding the gun the Enforcer is based on. Again, this is incorrect because they're completely different models. (proof that identifies firearms in films). There's a proper resemblance for this real life revolver looking like the in-game weapon, but at least if that incorrect note (with no proof either) was removed it'd somewhat rid that misinformation. Hi, thanks for reaching out! Based on the info you provided, it is indeed true what you mentioned, so feel free to delete the false information from the article. However, saying that this Diamondback gun “looks like the one in-game” without any proof from either the creator or Valve, still falls under the speculation category.
