capper edits

Hi there,

Please note that for templates such as {{item link}} or {{common string}}, the parameters (such as {{item link|Pistol}}, "Pistol" being the parameter) should not be translated. If it puts out English text, please find the appropriate string in the dictionary and add the translation there (they're usually very large pages, so I recommend editing sections rather than the whole thing). If you're having troubles with adding these strings, you can look at other entries or another edit in the update history to see how it's done (or alternatively, you can ask someone for help).

Eureka Effect translation

Hi there,

When translating items, please use {{item link}} and {{item name}} instead of using their actual translations. Please also use {{update link}} and {{update name}} for updates. I've made an edit to fix some issues in your translation, please take a look.

On your recent translations

Hello, Lord of Dominating.

Please take a moment to read the language translation guide if you haven't already. I would also recommend you take a look at the recent edits to your translations.

Also, do not create translated names of your own - the Eureka Effect is also called "The Eureka Effect" in Romanian (its string in tf_romanian.txt is "TF_Wrenchmotron"), not "Efectul Evrika", and all the classes still use their English names ("Engineer", "Spy" etc.).

Thank you for your attention, and welcome to the Team Fortress Wiki. Any questions, don't hesitate to ask me or other, more experienced contributors. - BrazilianNut (talk) 16:14, 26 August 2023 (UTC)

Brother, what. You just joined this wiki 5 days ago, and have already made a lot of translations for romanian, wut. I hope to see you around more in the wiki, keep on translating. It helps the wiki a lot. :)

blud JUST JOINED and already started translating like crazy wtf welcome to the wiki, hope to see you around more. Payn (talk) 00:05, 30 August 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for the achievement! I am, as far as I know, the only active romanian translator and most of the pages are stuck in their 2012 versions so I definitely have a lot of work ahead of myself but the people of this wiki have been nothing but helpfull so far and I'm getting pretty good at editing page layouts. I hope to see you around as well and good luck on those edits! -Lord of Dominating (talk) 00:23, 30 August 2023 (UTC)

Help request for translation LUT for itemboxes

Hello there! I am currently working on a LUT for itemboxes as I am updating every itembox for every item. I have unfortunately never seen any translation for that yet and neither can I find anything if I check what the steam language server holds. Could you do me a favor please and translate the 10+2 strings? That way for every page that I will be working on I will be able to already ensure that the itembox are up-to-date. Thank you so much in advance! CampeR (talk) 09:02, 5 September 2023 (UTC)

I added translations in the table. Australium and Carbonado do not have terms in romanian since they where invented for this game and TF2 does not have an official romanian translation, so I just left them as they are ( its ok to refer to materials by the untranslated names if they don't have a translation). -Lord of Dominating (talk) 10:30, 5 September 2023 (UTC)
Thank you a billion times for your help! Very very much appreciated! CampeR (talk) 10:56, 5 September 2023 (UTC)
No problem! I wanted to add that I just searched for Carbonado and found out that its a real thing (the scientific name for black diamond). Still, it has no translation in romanian so the english name is used instead -Lord of Dominating (talk) 11:00, 5 September 2023 (UTC)

DISPLAYTITLE

Hello, Lord of Dominating.

Articles that do not use the {{item infobox}} or {{patch layout}} templates require {{DISPLAYTITLE:}} to have their titles translated, otherwise they appear as "English title/lang". Templates work with it, so you can, for example, use {{update name}} in conjunction with it for articles about updates (such as {{DISPLAYTITLE:{{update name|Shogun Pack}}}}).

Cheers. - BrazilianNut (talk) 18:16, 6 September 2023 (UTC)

Is it a good solution to just use DISPLAYTITLE on every page as a precaution?-Lord of Dominating (talk) 18:56, 6 September 2023 (UTC)
I would recommend against that, as if there's a conflict in display titles, it adds a red error message to the article (if not now, possibly one day). - BrazilianNut (talk) 23:45, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

Translating

Hey, you've been taking over the romanian recent changes page lmao
I'm just wondering how the translation process works? I would give it a shot but I'm not really well versed in enough languages to translate Payn (talk) 22:52, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

First of all you should read Help:Editing if you didn't already. Then, after you find an article you want to translate that has no page in that language, you go to the english version of the page, click the edit button on top, and copy everything in the edit box that appears. Then you go to the "create" page for the language you chose, and paste everything. The first thing I do is click "show preview" so I can always see how the page looks. Remember to do this often and always before saving the changes. Outside of actually translating sentences, you need to translate links and template boxes. This links[[]] are translated by ending whatever they contain with [original text/ro|translated text] ( I used ro as an example every language has a different code). Do note however that if its possible you should switch [[]] links for template links that look like this {{}}. Text in this tipes of link do not need to be translated and look the same for every language. Instead, a separate page containing the translation exists that automatically translates that template to every page it is found on. If your language does not have te template yet, use it anyway, it can be translated at a later date, when you know how this works better. This is a list of templates, with the dots allways being replaced by what you want to link to:  !I am using "" instead of {{}} so as to not create links, but all examples should use {{}}, not ""

{DISPLAYTITLE:-----} (used for replacing the name of a page with another one so "halloween achievemnts/ro" becomes "Halloween achievements" for example. Does not create a link and should not be used on item pages )
{used by|.....} ( the dots are replaced with the name of the class that uses this item. should only be used in the used-by section of an items description template. Does not produce a link)
"cl|....." (links to the class page of the class written inside for example "Pyro" or "Medic")
"class link|....." (used to link to the class page of the class but also add the class emblem next to the link. Used in the achievement section) "common string|....." (used for all sorts of articles and links. I don't know how to use it yet)
"item kind|....." (used in the item-type and item-kind section of an item description template to translate the type of item it is. Does not produce a link. Inside you should write the item type as it appears in english)
"item description|....." (used in the description section of an item description template to translate the description of an item. Inside you should write the name of that item. Do note that many english articles have the english description written in there instead of just using this)
"item name|....." (translates the name of the item written in this template. Does not create a link)
"item link|....." (translates the name of the item written in this template and creates a link to that item)
"map link|....." (translates the name of the map written in this template and creates a link to that map)
"update link|....." (translates the name of that major update and creates a link to that major update. Used a lot in the patch notes)

For example: If an english article uses [Pyro] (I am using single parenthesis to not actually create a link) you should NOT change it to [Pyro/ro|Pyro] even thought it is corect. You should instead use "cl|Pyro". If you run into a [] link that does not have a template replacement (like game mods), use the /ro| method. Other than that, have a dictionary at hand for the language you want to translate (there is allways an online one) and an english one as well if you're not that good at that language. Be very careful when translating words that are used very often, such as "See also" or "cosmetics" so that the translation is constant. Look at what the other translators did in that language to not change the translation unless it is straight up wrong. If you are not sure about how a template should be changed or added, look at the spanish or french version of the article since they also needed to do the same thing you are trying to do. And lastly, this is a process and NO ONE gets it right from the start. If you start making edits me and other users should correct what you did and offer advice. Making mistakes is part of the process. Hope this helps-Lord of Dominating (talk) 08:36, 14 September 2023 (UTC)

As a side note, links to wikipedia should be changed to the wikipedia page in your language. If there is no wikipedia page in that language leave the link in english and add this template "lang icon|en" to warn the user that the page you are linking to is in english. This should be done for any link that leads to an english page such as the TF2 official blog witch does not have an english translation. Quotes from the mercenary present at the beggining of many articles shoud have |en-sound=yes added between the .wav and }} to signify that the sound clip is in english -Lord of Dominating (talk) 08:47, 14 September 2023 (UTC)

Easily accessing a redirect

When you click on a redirect, you are taken to its target page and a small text appears beneath its title, reading "(Redirected from [redirect])". You can click that link to access the redirect and modify it.

Template:Self-illumination

Hi there,

Seems like you forgot to add a translation for "The Australium plating", as it is just an empty "| ro =" now.

Ohoh, you missed that one... TRY ANOTHER! In all seriousness, good job with all the constant and high quality translations. I don't know the language but the pages aren't broken and seem to be all good. Almost every time I go check the Recent Changes, I see your name and that you have translated/update yet another /ro page, so that's nice.

Thank you! I make sure to consult the dictionary for any words I struggle with translating as well as checking the in-game translations. I wish there was another Romanian translator to talk with, especially regarding some of the more complicated phrases, but rest assured that I'm trying my best with all my translations! Lord of Dominating (talk) 16:16, 6 October 2023 (UTC)

Good job m8

Idk how you made languages of yours kept updated like active language section like /es and /pt-br. I want to you give a Wiki achievement at first, but on second thought you already have 2 same achievements and thats probably the best in this situation, so I'll just leave a medic voiceline here.

"Thanks!"

Strange Part redirects

Hello, Lord of Dominating.

Been a while since we last talked. Sadly, I come with a heads-up.

Please don't create redirects to pages that haven't been translated yet, as they are considered broken redirects. I'd recommend you translate the Strange Part article soon, or all those redirects will eventually be deleted.

Cheers. - BrazilianNut (talk) 23:49, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

The Strange Part page is done, sorry for the wait. Also, the in-game description of added Strange Parts has an official translation, but the actual name of the Strange Parts do not. I took the translated names from those descriptions. - Lord of Dominating (talk) 08:59, 6 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi, I changed the template quote there to be more fitting and added translations, but excepting Romanian as my knowledge is remedial, I couldn't find a source, and wanted to leave it to a native expert like you. ^^ Cele mai bune urări.--Leaderboard class allclass.png Akolyth (talk) 06:15, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

Been lurking through the Wiki for a bit, and whilst you haven't done much to gain recognition or anything like that, you've worked tirelessly with your Romanian translations for god knows how long whilst I was gone. Congrats, friend. You've done good, you're doing a great service :)
