Just a quick appreciation post

I'm relatively new to the Wiki, and I made it here to pretty much translate all things TF2. Prior to this I translated Team Fortress 2 Classic (as swfcapslock) and Pre-Fortress 2 (not credited yet, localization will be implemented in the next update), and I enjoyed every second of contributing to those projects with my Turkish localization file. So after finding out what I can do in this website, I felt like I just found myself a gold mine.

Even though translating things are so fun, I often mess things up, whether that be me missing out on things to translate under the large, spooky jumbles of formatting text, or ruining something while trying to do something with that same text. I have never used any kind of wikia page, and I have pretty much zero prior experience with those. But it's all thanks to people like you that make it a fun, learning experience where I can also get to meet new people in return. Thank you for the stuff you helped pointing out to me thus far, and I hope to see you again. Swiffie (talk) 21:40, 14 January 2023 (UTC)

Hello, Swiffie.
Thank you for the kind message! Nice to know you're enjoying editing the wiki, and I'm glad I've been able to help.
Do not worry about making mistakes - the "edit" and "undo" buttons will always be there.
Cheers. - BrazilianNut (talk) 13:57, 15 January 2023 (UTC)

Thanks always for fixing my edits.

I have seen you fixing minor errors on my (and others') edits. Unfortunately, most of those documents I try to update these days have not been updated since 2015 ~ 2018-ish, which means their template usages are severely outdated, and you might need to keep fixing those. I'll try to imitate your fixes, but it would take some time to fully learn those. If you let me know what to fix with examples here or on my talk page, that would be grateful. Have a nice day!

Revision Question

Hey, I wanted to ask you a question, I'm pretty new here so I may not know how these things work. As I translated the Swiftwater and the Meet Your Match Video pages I noticed that your name appeared on the edit log too. Is that like some kind of check if I made my work correctly? Just asking because as I already told you I'm new and I dunno how things work here lol. Bye! TheRealLawreV2 (talk) 21:27, 16 February 2023 (UTC)

Hey there.
If you mean that you received an alert about my edits, then it's because you left "Watch this page" checked, so you'll be alerted whenever people edit those pages.
If you just mean that my name is in the revision history, that's simply because all edits are recorded there; all pages have a revision history where changes are recorded and can be seen, as well as the previous versions of that page.
Cheers. - BrazilianNut (talk) 07:02, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
PS: You can edit your watchlist by clicking Preferences on the top right, then selecting Watchlist > View and remove titles on your watchlist.

I finally found out, the edit log shows a single edit if a page is edited in little time more than twice and therefore listed your name along mine in what it seemed to me a single edit, but was like 4 edits packed in one. Thanks and bye! TheRealLawreV2 (talk) 13:06, 17 February 2023 (UTC)

A little question with the use of { { itemlink}}

Hi there,

A recent edit of yours revert my changes with "Flying Guillotine".
Here's the problem, you see , I just join wiki for about 5 days and I kinda learn things through other editor's improvment edit for my edit, somedays ago a editor done the exact same thing to one of the pages I translate "Banana/zh-hans ", so I just thought Its a better kind of link use it instead of [[]] = cool .Now I'm kinda confused, to me its the same ,they are just links to other pages , can you tell me sth about the use of { { itemlink}} and how its different with a redirect link?

Hi there, we suggest the use of the string {{item link|ENGLISH NAME}}, when translating item names with links..
Using the Spanish (/es) section as an example:
  • If you use {{item link|Buff Banner}}, the wiki will automatically translate the name into Estandarte de Ánimo.
    • But if you want to translate just the text name, you can use {{item name|ENGLISH NAME}}.
Same rule applies for updates:
  • {{update link|ENGLISH NAME}}
  • {{update name|ENGLISH NAME}}
It is encouraged for users to use that string, because sometimes the names change.
Using a case study that happened with the Spanish localization as an example:
With the string, if any future changes happen, instead of manually updating who knows how many articles, simply we can just change the dictionary once, and the syntax automatically changes all the old names.
Hope this helps!

acknowledged!

Profiteer(奸商) (talk) 09:53, 8 March 2023 (UTC)

Hello, Profiteer.
Translation templates such as {{item link}} are generally not used in English pages because English is already the root language, and so there's nothing to translate on them.
The exceptions are mostly tables and when there are several links and/or names together (such as patch notes and lengthy disambiguation pages), which is done to make translating and updating localized articles easier (a simple copy and paste does the job).
I hope that helps. Cheers. - BrazilianNut (talk) 12:58, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
