"More Gun" is associated with the Engineer, and reflects that. With "folky" notated in the acoustic guitar part, the track is written to encapsulate the friendly, yet menacing nature of the Engineer's character. Several versions exist, though the acoustic guitar is always featured in beginning of each official version.
 +
 +
Beginning with only acoustic guitar, the track focuses on a chord progression in A. The acoustic guitar continues playing on its own until electric guitar takes over, at which point the acoustic guitar becomes accompaniment and the tonality switches from A major to A minor. After other instruments are layered in throughout, continuing or accompanying the theme presented in the guitars, the track concludes on an unresolved B7 chord.
 +
 +
Other instruments are featured or omitted depending on the version; accordion is not present in version 1 or 2, and harmonica only plays in version 2.

Analysis

Key: A Major/A Minor
Time Signature: 12/8-6/8
Tempo: 52.5 BPM
Length: 3:06
Release Date: July 8, 2010
Update: The Engineer Update
Composer: Mike Morasky
Instrumentation: 2 trumpets, cornet, tuba, accordion, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, 2 violins, violoncello

Other instruments are featured or omitted depending on the version; accordion is not present in version 1 or 2, and harmonica only plays in version 2.

Trivia

  • The song is titled after the Engineer's recipe from Meet the Engineer: "...use a gun. And if that don't work... use more gun."
  • "More Gun" is based on "Someone Else's Song" by American alternative band Wilco from their album Being There. A cover of this track is included in the soundtrack of Poker Night at the Inventory.
    • Coincidentally, the lyrics to this song mention "...[sounding like a] song from a long time ago" - with Team Fortress 2 canonically being set a few decades prior to its 1996 release.
  • A remix of the tune from 1:01 onwards plays during The Calm, from 0:35 to 1:20.
  • None of the versions heard in-game match the original from Meet the Engineer.
