Rick May, la inimitable voz del Soldier por trece años, que prestó su voz a cortos e innumerables actualizaciones, falleció el pasado mes de abril a la edad de 79 años. Tuvimos la suerte de trabajar con Rick muchas veces en el estudio durante la última década. Rick, un colaborador ingenioso y de buen corazón, dotó al personaje con característicos gritos y un abundante carisma idiótico. Las estatuas del Soldier son figuras conmemorativas que se colocaron de forma temporal en algunos mapas oficiales del juego durante el Parche del 1 de mayo de 2020 como un tributo a Rick May, voz del Soldier en inglés, que falleció el 8 de abril de 2020 a causa de complicaciones con el COVID-19.

Durante el mes de mayo, la imagen del menú principal era de la clase del Soldier y la banda sonora que se reproducía era el Saluting the Fallen, que esa una versión de la marcha fúnebre tocada en diversos países miembros de la OTAN, como España o Estados Unidos, en funerales de actos militares. Rick May fue miembro del ejército de los EE. UU. en Japón, como miembro de espectáculos de la United Service Organizations (USO).

Se trataba de unas estatuas de bronce del Soldier saludando en un pedestal de mármol con una placa en que se puede leer «Rick May / 1940 - 2020 / That was one hell of a campaign son!». Cuando te acercas a la estatua oirás diversas frases del Soldier al azar.

El 4 de mayo de 2020, el equipo de TF2 de Valve realizó una publicación en honor a Rick May.

El 21 de agosto de 2020 se colocó una estatua del Soldier en Granary, en donde aparecen además las cabezas cortadas del Conoce al Soldier.
