Hello

Hello, thanks for making images for some of the newer items in the Winter 2022 update. While I think most of your poses and facial flexes do look good (although some of them might be too "front-faced" or too "centered"), I would like to mention a couple things:

  • Make sure to always crop out unnecessary empty spaces around the picture. If you use GIMP, the image program, you can use the Image -> Crop to Content to autocrop your picture;
  • Have you tinkered your dxsupport.cfg file? The anti-alias for your pictures, as well texture quality, isn't set at maximum. I suggest reading this guide.
    • In short, you can try using the pre-configured dxsupport.cfg file located here, or, try using HLMV++, which has a built-in option to adjust your graphics quality (read the "Maximizing quality settings with HLMV++" part of the guide);
    • You can return to regular HLMV once you set your graphics to maximum on HLMV++, although, HLMV++ is better for taking screenshots via the Options -> Make Screenshot... option.
      • Note: Your graphics quality in the model viewer does not affect your quality in TF2, and vice-versa.
  • Make sure to download both the Fire Overlay Fix and the Consistent Cubemaps.
  • Your Colonel Kringle images have a weird transparency oddity where some parts of the model is slightly transparent. It seems you applied the fire overlay fix for one of the two screenshots, and then removed the background, causing this weird transparency effect (seen if you mouse-hover when previewing the file, like this one).

Thanks for making images for the Wiki. I would suggest try these things from above before working on new images, and... if you are up to, you can remake your Colonel Kringle and Festive Rack pictures once you are able to get HLMV or HLMV++ at max quality settings. Thank you for your kind advice! I can see that I really should upgrade my graphic settings. Luckily, i ordered my new laptop recently, so i will try out those methods later when my computer arrives.(It has nvidia graphic card, so something might be different?) Aaaand I don't know why but those Colonel Kringle images have some weird red-ish stains(is this what you meant by weird transparency effect?) over the models. So that's another problem... Also sorry for bothering, but can you inspect this method i used? This is Paint.NET program's user mod, but i don't fully understand what it actually does. CAS (talk) 15:34, 12 December 2022 (UTC)

  • I changed the dxsupport.cfg files looking at this. But the problem was that i don't have proper graphics card, which lead me to change the unknown graphics card section. I'm not sure, but HLMV might haven't properly applied my setting due to this problem. CAS (talk) 15:58, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
The red-ish stains are the fire overlay texture. The fix will remove the fire-overlay from the model and this shouldn't happen again. I'm not really sure how that happened that they appear somewhat transparent, though. I never heard about that method of taking transparent screenshots before, the way I used to do on regular HLMV was by changing the background color from white to black, and do a similar process later, but on GIMP. HLMV++'s screenshot tool is more reliable and produces better results, so I suggest it instead. You shouldn't need to configure the dxsupport.cfg by getting the pre-configured .cfg, but that's not always the case. HLMV++ has a built-in graphics change option, just put everything to max and see if things look in better quality (see the guide on what to put on those tabs, the Picmip and such). Then, use HLMV++ to take screenshots. I don't have NVidia, but it should work without issues. I know that, in some cases, it's impossible to set anti-aliasing if your computer's graphics card (or lack of) has no anti-aliasing functionality, though trying to set the option on HLMV++ may be worth a try before your new computer arrives. Recent Images

Hello CAS, I would like to report some of your new images, and a few things I think it can be improved. But, first off, I would like to say that you improved a lot since my last message regarding HLMV's settings and such. Several of your newest uploads do look a lot better, and consistent with other images throughout the Wiki. However, I would like to point out some small things:

I have mentioned about the Colonel Kringle and Festive Rack pictures before, so I have nothing much to add. The ones you remade do look a lot better, though. Well, this should be it. Your pictures are pretty good, with good facial flexing and so on. Just a couple things I wanted to let you know to keep in mind for future uploads.
