Brotherhood of Steel

Can you get "Brotherhood of Steel" if you just complete the round with 5 friends, or do you need to play from the start to end? - Spur 02:49, 17 August 2012 (PDT)

No, must be from before wave 1- the end of the mission (end of level) adn your friends cannot leave until the end. Gamebro 15:14, 14 December 2012 (PDT)

Silicon Slaughter, Metal Massacre and T-1000000

Roughly how many rounds/missions would it take to earn these? Of course it depends on class and skill. I've played maybe 10 missions and have about 900 robot destructions and 15000 credits. Roughly how many credits are in a mission? - Spur 10:08, 17 August 2012 (PDT)

Hard Reset Maps

I earned this achievement on Decoy by air-blasting the bomb-carrier off of the bridges. I assume that this achievement is tied to The Announcer's voice responses, and can be done on any of the maps.--Magma Spire 15:52, 17 August 2012 (PDT)

I just tried to do this by dropping scouts into mineshafts on coaltown, and pushing the bomb carrier into a mineshaft 3 times did NOT award the achievement. I tried this twice on two consecutive waves, and both times there was no achievement despite the announcer acknowledging the bomb being reset. I suspect this is a bug, since I can't see how this would not be intended behaviour. --Savant 20:08, 26 August 2012 (PDT)

You can't get this on Coaltowns mineshafts, only at Decoy's bridge which will cause the bomb carrier to have to climb back up the long way. Maybe on Mannworks if you push them ito the small ditch at the bridge which leads into the building and back around. Not really reseting just stalling. --Gamebro 15:11, 14 December 2012 (PDT)

Get Maximum Perfomance easily

There is a map called mvm_open_v3 where you will start with 30,000 credits. You start a map on your listen server, upgrade yourself to max, then enjoy your Machievement. Easimer 12:38, 20 August 2012 (PDT)

Obtaining the credits may or may not be simple (server admins can use console commands to set everyone to the maximum credit number, too...probably why Mann Up is only allowed on official servers). Clicking all of the upgrade buttons, however, is. -- InShane 14:46, 20 August 2012 (PDT)

System Upgrade

Can anyone explain in detail how this achievement can be gotten? I have fully upgraded the Pomson 6000 on an Engineer but did not get the achievement. But this was right during a mission. Do you have to finish the mission with a fully upgraded weapon, or (like the achievement description implies) do you have to upgrade a primary weapon for maybe each class? Astartus 04:30, 3 September 2012 (PDT)

You only need to upgrade the primary on one class. Another note about this achievement is that I just got it by fully upgrading buildings for Engineer. Does anyone know if this is a bug or a feature? PinkieThePie 12:39, 30 September 2012 (PDT)
I think that some classes have different primaries, as a Spy fully upgrading the knife earns you the achievement. 3:35 Gamebro 8 Novemebr 2012
It means "primary weapon" in terms of the class' main weapon, as opposed to the one in the primary slot. For example, an Engineer's main weapon is of course his Sentry, while a Spy's is the Knife. IT's pretty easy to figure out which is which for the different classes - except the Demo. Anyone know if it's the Grenade or Sticky Launcher? » Cooper Kid (blether) • (contreebs) 12:57, 8 November 2012 (PST)
For me, the achievement appears to be bugged. I've played a few matches where I've been able to fully upgrade the Pyro's Backburner, and for some reason, while other players on the server got the achievement, I didn't. And even as recently as today, when I fully upgraded the Engineer's PDA, still no achievement. --PeabodySam (talk) 11:13, 22 November 2013 (PST)
For whatever it's worth, I'm not sure what happened differently, but a couple days ago I once again obtained enough credits to fully upgrade the Engineer's PDA, and this time the achievement was successfully achieved. --PeabodySam (talk) 14:36, 29 April 2015 (PDT)

Brotherhood of Steel is bugged

I've seen multiple sources state that "Brotherhood of Steel" and the other "play with friends" achievements are bugged and can not be obtained under normal circumstances. Is this true, and if so, shouldn't there be a note about that on this page? Dogman15 (talk) 15:26, 28 October 2013 (PDT)

The bug is already listed on the mvm achievement list page, so it may not be necessary here Emrfish6 (talk) 15:29, 28 October 2013 (PDT)

"A Bygone Century"

Isn't this achievement for knocking robots into the pit on Rottenburg? (Previously used for witches and such?) If so, this achievement should be harder than simply winning matches. Dogman15 (talk) 23:14, 28 November 2013 (PST)

For knocking/airblast into pit OR water. Until your (/yours friend) counter under 100- try. Better alone (on a private server).Kmyc89 (talk) 08:52, 14 January 2014 (PST)

Bank on it

I can't get this to work in Caliginous Caper (Ghost Town) Also, does mission mean 1 wave or the whole thing? Collateral (talk) 13:52, 30 November 2013 (PST)

On Mannhattan works. So maybe only on "Two cities"-update maps. Kmyc89 (talk) 08:48, 14 January 2014 (PST)

after many attempts on different maps I can confirm this achievement only works on mannhattan and i have updated the text to reflect this I also removed the incorrect statement about telling people to avoid collecting red money as the money is collected on kill as opposed to when the money expires Wingnut (talk) 04:05, 4 May 2014 (PDT)

I can't remember which map I received this achievement from, but, since Mannhattan is probably hardest Sniper map, I wouldn't bet on it being that one. Since this achievement existed since before Mannhattan was released, I have doubts as to your claim, and someone seems to have correspondingly retracted your edits. However, from my experience, you are correct in saying that other players running over red money doesn't matter, so I fixed that again. Leadfoot9 (talk) 09:38, 28 June 2014 (PDT)

Chippin' In

I got this pretty easily this morning. Just waited for the robots to take gate A and air blasted them into the pit while they are stunned waiting for the gate to open. Jumped down into the pit by the stairs and waited for them to capture B. Just stay in the pit while they are stunned and they will come find you before the bomb bot starts heading towards the end. Pop an uber canteen if you need to and get whatever you have left to get the achievement. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ryll1121 (talk) • (contribs)

Frags To Riches achievement awarded on an intermediate mission.

Was playing some Boot Camp Mann vs. Machine earlier today (Doe's Doom, Intermediate, Decoy, Valve Server) and after getting all the money on the first 2 waves, we set ourselves a challenge to get every pile. I was surprised to find that after completing wave 7 and collecting the last pile, 5 out of 6 of us were awarded the Frags To Riches achievement. Surprised because the achievement description specifies an advanced difficulty mission. It's also been rumoured that you have to complete the mission from start to finish without any wave failures but we lost the first wave repeatedly, after which however we completed all waves.

I'm going to edit this achievement's tip to reflect this, as I find it highly unlikely to be one of those long-delayed achievements, a bug or coincidence.

It'd be nice for someone to double-check this edit. I might do it later if I have time. ⇒Leaderboard class spy.png Anyar (talk/contributions/giveaway) 06:53, 27 August 2017 (PDT)

Rewritting the content of the page

I have noticed many things in this page are either terribly outdated or completely misleading, such as Engine Block encouraging knockbacks and slowdowns, which tends to be considered bad advice in Mann Vs Machine. I would like to completely rewrite the content of this page to up-to-date advice, especially when considering the latest major edit was from 2015. Quenquent (talk) 10:31, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

  1. Remember, this is advice on obtaining achievements, rather than advice specific to playing TF2 well as a team in every case; certainly there are many situations were playing to complete Achievements specifically is contrary to team play. Remember, an intention of the Achievement system is to inform players of game mechanics and encourage them to learn to use them, but doing so isn't always the best gameplay in general. A Bygone Century relies entirely on compression knockback, but letting bots get as far as that pit is bad tactics, just like letting bots get as far as the bomb hole is bad tactics. Balls-E strikes a balance; it clearly recognizes the difference between good tactics and intentionally cheesing the Achievement, and also gives a brief technique for fighting the capture for those poor teams that can't keep the bomb away from the hole for which there may be better reliances than knockback (yes, this is straying into the domain of Strategy).
  2. It is one thing to update the page to changes in weapons and map mechanics as impacting on obtaining Achievements specifically, but another to expand the page to duplicate the MvM Strategy pages (which, I grant, may not be your intent, and forgive any such presumption).

Agreeing with Mikado here, it's fine to update false info/update outdated things, but these pages are supposed to be about getting the achievements and not playing in mvm properly.
GrampaSwood (talk) 15:57, 31 January 2020 (UTC)

Just noticed I wasn't watching this so didn't get the answers. I will keep this in mind (and it does explain some parts that I found strange), but maybe tweaking the difficulty and tips of some achievements due to how the overall playerbase has changed (like for A Bygone Century, where teams have improved to the point of not letting robots going in the town) might be needed. Also, even if easy to do, I'm not sure if speaking about creating/tweaking popfiles, that do allow unlocking those achievement easier, is something that should be spoken about. Thank you for your answers, I will work on it when I got the time. Quenquent (talk) 14:25, 11 February 2020 (UTC)

A Bygone Century is easier, and more courteous, on an empty server. Ubercharge canteens and other upgrades can make that even easier. M I K A D O 282 ❄❄❄❄❄ ❄❄ ❄❄ (talk) (Help Wanted!) 02:22, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
Years ago (and I'm talking 7+ years ago, when the wiki was taking off and I was a wee undergraduate) trying to procrastinate, I was the one who revised all "Obtaining achievement" entries; both entries you mention are mine. Revisions, especially on generic sounding entries, are nice. Entries should be brief, keep up with the meta, and not involve farming. I'll do an edit on "A Bygone Century." - InShane (talk) 02:51, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
