Changing the Googly Gazer's style.
Let's do this Texas style.
The Engineer

Styles are alternate versions of hats, miscellaneous items, and weapons. Introduced in the Hatless Update on April 14, 2011 Patch, styles enable the player to alter the visual form of an item at any time. Styles applied to items do not affect the painted status or tradability of the item.

The style of an item can be changed by selecting the item in the backpack and then clicking 'Set Style'. If the item has defined styles, a window will appear listing the styles available in a drop-down menu, allowing the player to select one. Current styles range from being alterations to the painting scheme on an item to a separate model of the item entirely. Promotional items that were released in tiers, such as the hats of the Steam Treasure Hunt, have styles that mimic the appearance of the lower-tiered counterparts. Another example is the Gibus, which can be Ghastly, Ghastlier and Ghastlierest.

There are currently 23 items that have styles.

Bugs

  • The Ghastlier Gibus is incorrectly placed if the Ghastly style is active.
  • After changing an item's style, it takes effect immediately without having to respawn or touch a Resupply locker. This may be intentional as styles have no effect on gameplay.
  • When painting an item, the preview render will always show the original style regardless of the one currently active.
  • Alternate styles on headwear items sometimes will not show up in the loadout menu.
