Ein geworfenes Sandvich

Das Sandvich (vollständig Sandvich Edible Device) ist ein freischaltbarer, sekundärer 'Lunchbox' Gegenstand für den Heavy und ersetzt die normale Shotgun, sofern man den Heavy Milestone 1 erreicht hat. Es besteht aus zwei dreieckigen Brotscheiben, Salat, Tomaten, Käse, Schinken und Fleischwurst. Bei Verzehr stellt es die Gesundheit des Heavys zu 100% (300 HP) über eine 4 Sekundenperiode wiederher. Die Entscheidung, ein Sandvich zu essen, darf jedoch nicht leichtfertig getroffen werden: Der Heavy ist während des Prozesses komplett bewegungsunfähig und gibt ein lautes Mampfgeräusch von sich. Nach Konsum ist das Sandvich während einer Cooldownperiode von 30 Sekunden nicht verfügbar, ausser der Heavy hebt bei voller Gesundheit ein Medikit auf. Das Sandvich vermag es zwar nicht, Feuer zu löschen, da es jedoch schneller heilt als das Nachbrennen Schaden verursacht, kann es einen angeschlagenen Heavy retten. Unter Wasser kann das Sandvich nicht konsumiert werden, so wie unmöglich ist, unter Wasser zu verspotten.

Ein grosszügiger Heavy kann mittels alternativem Feuer ein Sandvich zu Boden fallen lassen, welches für 30 Sekunden einem befreundeten Spieler die Möglichkeit bietet, 50% seiner Gesundheit wiederherzustellen. Das Sandvich kann nach 30 Sekunden wieder genutzt werden, man kann sich jedoch auch ein Neues am Auffüllschrank oder durch Aufheben eines Medikits bei voller Gesundheit besorgen. Spieler erhalten 50 HP (75 für Scouts) durch das Aufheben von Sandviches eines toten Heavys.

Mit dem aktuellen Patch ist es möglich, durch Gebrauch des "use tf_weapon" Befehls zum Wechseln der Waffe bevor die Verspottung beendet ist, die Cooldownperiode des Sandvich zu umgehen. Dies kommt wahrscheinlich daher, dass im Code vor dem Start des Zeitgebers geprüft wird, ob der Heavy das Sandvich ausgerüstet hat. Befehle, die diesen Effekt nützen, sind beispielsweise: Bind "KEY" "use tf_weapon_minigun" und Bind "KEY" "use tf_weapon_fists".

  • A Heavy holding the Sandvich drops no ammo or metal when killed, leaving behind his Sandvich instead. An enemy Scout who kills a Heavy eating a Sandvich may collect his victim's luncheon to earn the "Dodgers 1, Giants 0" achievement, as well as to gain 75 HP. All other classes will heal 50 HP when they pick up a fallen Heavy's Sandvich.
  • The Sandvich was first portrayed to the playing community in the Meet the Scout video, weeks before it was released as an in-game item.
  • Because the Sandvich has no unique taunt, taunting with the Sandvich held has exactly the same effect as using its primary function, though the short delay between switching weapons and being able to fire them is ignored if a player taunts with the Sandvich (Default key "G") instead of using it with Primary fire. This method of bypassing the weapon switch delay can be used to minimize the time in which you are vulnerable to attack.

  • The Sandvich user guide says that the bread and grains group heals 20 health, the vegetable group heals 40 health, the cheese and dairy group heals 20 health, the meat and poultry group heals 20 health, and the other bread and grains group heals 20 health. This sums to only 120 health, the amount of health that the Sandvich originally replenished. The ability of the Sandvich to heal 300 points of health was added in a later update.
  • The promotional poster for the Sandvich contains a typo. The word "Health" relating to the cheese and dairy group is misspelled.
  • It is possible to drop the Sandvich while stunned by the Sandman.
  • Currently, a glitch exists where if a player taunts with the Sandvich, the cooldown meter gets stuck and does not refill until you grab another Sandvich from the resupply cabinet.
  • Furthermore, when taunting with the Sandvich, it recycles the cooldown timer, so you could eat a Sandvich with the normal Weapon Fire button, let the cooldown timer wear down, then regain a Sandvich using a healthkit, taunt with it, and then get another immediately through the cooldown.
