Letter from Saxton Hale
Ooh, it is sad day!
The Heavy

Following a blog post on the TF2 Official Blog by Saxton Hale on January 10, 2013, several cosmetic items were retired from the game. Retired items are no longer available from the Mann Co. Store, uncratable as unusual cosmetics, rewarded in the drop system or obtainable as a craft result. The first batch of retired items have not been available since January 25, 2013.

Retired items can still be worn. However, new instances of these items are only obtainable by unboxing Mann Co. Supply Crates that specifically list them as a possible result, in Unique quality only. Existing retired cosmetics can be obtained through Trading or the Steam Marketplace.
