Counter Description
What happened to the section explaining the counters which don't track kills (i.e. Medi Gun tracks Ubercharges, Wrench tracks Sentry kills)? That was genuinely useful information and should still be here. I also think it's worth mentioning that the Chargin' Targe only counts shield-bash kills and not melee kills using the targe's crit. : The same thing happened to me. TWICE. I suddenly found a strange weapon I'd never seen before in my backpack, complete with drop notification. And no, I did not trade for them and then mysteriously got amnesia. (I'm not really interested in stranges and if I uncrate one I usually sell it off unless it's a Medic or Pyro weapon. And I rarely if ever bother to open crates unless they're holiday crates. In fact, the number of stranges I got from crates I opened is five, and I can tell you exactly what they were: shovel, homewrecker, medigun, spycicle, stickybomb launcher.) I found the first one, a Strange Scotsman's Skullcutter, on Day 2 of my first tentative venturing out into public online servers, back during the Scream Fortress 2012 event. (Up to then I had only played in offline training modus.) Being a newbie and not knowing about the TF2 Wiki or trading sites then, I didn't know what the hell a strange was and traded it away for some unique weapons or a handful of voodoo-cursed items or something. So unfortunately I cannot show the Skullcutter as proof, and being a newbie I didn't make a screenshot of the find because I didn't know that what had happend should be impossible. :( The 2nd one was a Strange Neon Annihilator, also in 2012; that too I sold off because I already had a unique N.A. (dammit), but I think I got it either during Halloween or Smissmass. Perhaps that's a pattern? Might the Haunted Halloween Gifts that spawned on Ghostfort have anything to do with it? Because I managed to locate and grab a lot of those. Again, baseless speculation, sorry. But those two weapons, I sure as heck don't know where else they could have come from. --Knusperfrosch 05:45, 9 March 2013 (PST)

:::: @Hinaomi - I replied to Fyaweather's claim that "No one else has ever reported such a thing." by reporting two additional such instances, from a time when I didn't have keys to waste on normal crates. How else are people going to report something if they're being to told to shut up simply because a thread is a few months old? The issue still stands.  (If I ever find a strange I didn't uncrate, I'll make damn sure to make screenshots to document if the weapon origin says "uncrated" or "drop".) Out of the total population of TF2 players how many people do you think frequent this Wiki, and what percentage of them actually reads the Discussion page, and how many of those would bother to make an account just to report something no-one will believe  them? It's like fossil hunting. --Knusperfrosch (talk) 23:42, 20 September 2013 (PDT)

Since it is technically a Strange item, sharing text colour and the ranking-up behaviour, I've added it to the article. They all have new names for their ranks, so should a new table be made for them, or should they just be listed somewhere ? This could eventually be a problem if more stranges with different names for ranks are added, since we'd either have a large amount of cluttered space, or we'd just have a foot note on the article noting it.

December 21:41, 22 March 2012 (PDT)

: I combined the different rank tables into a single template: Template:Strange Weapon Ranks Table. It uses the Tabs template, so new Stranges with their own tables can be added (until we have over 20 different ones, which is when the Tabs template will have to be expanded. I've also changed the order of the tables to alphabetical (though with the Generic list on top), since the current order was just random as far as I could see. The new template uses the old templates, which still exist, so they can be used on for example the individual item pages (Like with the Spirit Of Giving. Holiday punch's leveling up system is same as normal weapons (it's just different name). And the buff banner also follows the generic leveling up system. Hope this solved your answer. Drsteiner12 00:28, 15 January 2013 (PST)

Strange Crates Pattern
I have noticed, that the crates sometimes bring the stranges from the past again, for example, the scattergun, the rocket launcher, and the medigun. While there are many more weapons that haven't been dropped in strange quality, some are coming back. Is there a certain pattern how the strange weapons in crates are decided? == Robots Destroyed Ranks ==

: Mainly because, Stranges only rank based on one "Primary" way of ranking up. Robots destroyed do not count as a method to rank up. Strange parts are really just added counters. Similar to how the medigun tracks assists but only levels by ubers. Ashes 07:42, 24 March 2013 (PDT)

:I recently changed the table because it wasn't clear what the table was showing other than the standard ranks, and it looked out of place with the rest of the page. I wanted to check today if the Invis Watch can rank up by standing idle next to a resupply locker (just out of curiosity), I was on an empty server to do this, yet I noticed that my counter would not go up, even when I moved around. == Strange Sapper ranking up ==

I have been wondering for a while and have still not gotten a proper answer, so I wonder if anybody here knows. Does a Strange Sapper's/Snack Attack's score increase when somebody else delivers the killing blow to a sapped building?

For example when I sap it and a Soldier destroys it, does the Sapper's score still increase? I mean the Sapper counts "Buildings Sapped" rather than "Buildings Destroyed", however, "Buildings Destroyed" cannot be applied to a Strange Sapper or Snack Attack.

Stranges Being De-emphasized?
For a few weeks now, the strange level name (Gore Splattered, etc.) no longer shows when viewing an item in Steam inventory, or on your profile showcase, or really anywhere else except when you are viewing your own inventory in TF2 itself, rather than via the Steam Client inventory viewer.

For this reason, your ranking is only really visible to yourself, and really not even all that visible to yourself in most circumstances.

I don't know why this is the case, but it seems like the whole name-rank thing is very deemphasized now... almost unnoticable. I don't know if this is worth mentioning on the main page, but it seems like a major change. JafafaHots (talk) 19:02, 31 October 2014 (PDT)

: Pretty sure Valve changed this a few weeks ago. Most likely so that people didn't mix up Australian and Australium weapons. Either way, it's not that big a change, the ranks are still there and everything, you just don't see them in any web clients. --Omolong (talk) 19:04, 31 October 2014 (PDT)

:: sure but considering that Steam itself is a web client of sorts, the pages are html, that means you don't see them anywhere except in-game... which is not where most people do their looking at inventories, etc. JafafaHots (talk) 17:54, 2 November 2014 (PST)
