List of custom maps

Should we really have a list of custom maps? Unless there was another party that could determine if a map was of enough quality to be of tf2 standard that isn't the tf2 team making it official? Because this way we would never cover all the custom maps and catalog them all, since new ones are being created every day. Meter1060 14:31, 15 September 2011 (PDT)

Most of them are the ones announced on the TF2 Blog for the tf2maps competitions. - 6vKcd.pngnixshadow (t|c) 14:34, 15 September 2011 (PDT)
Sure but it doesn't seem to have any way of determining if a map is deemed to be able to be put on the wiki page. Meter1060 10:39, 20 September 2011 (PDT)
I guess that's one of the reasons there are Wiki editors here - we decide which ones are worth having on the page or not. » Cooper Kid (blether·contreebs) 12:09, 20 September 2011 (PDT)
Alright how about a map such as the Arena version of Harvest, which is one of the most popular Arena maps out there. Meter1060 21:26, 12 October 2011 (PDT)
I haven't seen arena_harvest on a server in about 2 years. User RagnarHomsar Userlink.png RagnarHomsar 21:27, 12 October 2011 (PDT)
I agree with RagnarHomsar. Maybe something such as the infamous cp_orange or some well-known VS Saxton Hale Mode maps would be better. Painted Vintage Merryweather 803020.pngFyahweather 21:32, 12 October 2011 (PDT)
Oh and VS saxton Hale's maps pretty much just use Arena maps, Custom or official. Meter1060 09:18, 13 October 2011 (PDT)
RagnarHomsar, thats probably because the number of Arena only servers have gone down. I play it all of the time on Freefrag's 24/7 arena server and is in fact one of the most played on there. Meter1060 21:35, 12 October 2011 (PDT)

about new content for the article

I believe the official TF2 wiki should mention user made maps that had a great impact on the players, even though some aren't following the TF2 standards, they impress by their quality and have been copied themselves by other mappers. As controversial it can be, Xenon's map Cyberpunk is a monuments of TF2 mapping, and deserve its own article in my opinion. My criteria are custom maps that even though they may not match TF2 standards are played a lot by the community. TF2stats.net may be a good reference for that. If needed, we may make a page for non-standard gameplay maps such as surf maps and VS Saxton Hale maps. What do you think? If no one makes an objection, I'll make it. --05:40, 26 October 2011 (PDT) Deity Link

pointless

if you have custom maps why not have custom skins and huds? pointless waste imo--Iaindude 06:34, 26 March 2012 (PDT)

Joining a server running an unofficial map will automatically download it to your computer. Lots of people use them and they are fully integrated into the game browser. Custom HUDs and skins are not. » Cooper Kid (blether) • (contreebs) 07:54, 26 March 2012 (PDT)
Additionally, Valve strongly encourages the use of custom maps for their Source games (as an example, there is an achievement in Day of Defeat: Source to download and play X custom maps). rZ 07:56, 26 March 2012 (PDT)
