El Engineer es un tejano amigable, de habla suave, con una afición por todo lo mecánico. Este trata de construir y mantener construcciones que benefician a sus aliados en vez de dedicarse al combate directo. Entre las creaciones del Engineer se incluyen el Arma Centinela, una torreta automatizada que dispara a cualquier enemigo al alcanze, el Dispensador, un dispositivo que recupera la salud y munición de los aliados cercanos y los Teleportadores que transportan a los aliados rápidamente.
Pero sus ingeniosos dispositivos siempre están amenazados por los explosivos y los Spies enemigos; un buen Engineer debe cuidar de sus dispositivos y mantenerlos reparados todo el tiempo. Cuando el Engineer tiene que ensuciarse las manos, su trío de genéricas, pero útiles, armas combinadas con la asistencia de sus útiles dispositivos lo hacen más que capaz de cuidarse por si mismo.
En caso necesario, el Engineer puede transportar una de sus construcciones a otro sitio que vea más favorable.
Se desconoce por quien está doblado el Engineer.

Estrategia Básica
- Utiliza la Herramienta de Construcción para colocar armas centinela, dispensadores y teleportadores.
- Necesitas metal para construir, reparar y mejorar tus construcciones. Recoge armas del suelo para conseguir más metal.
- Golpea el Arma Centinela con la Llave Inglesa para mejorarla con metal. Cada nivel añade más salud y potencia de disparo.
- Construye Dispensadores para que tus compañeros de equipo repongan salud y munición. También generan metal que podrás utilizar.
- Construye Teleportadores para ayudar a tu equipo a llegar antes a la vanguardia.
- Vigila por si hubiera Spies enemigos colocando Zapadores en tus construcciones. Utiliza la llave inglesa para quitar los Zapadores.
- Los Pyros son unos buenos aliados. Te pueden ayudar eliminado Zapadores de las construcciones con el Demoledor o el Mutilador.
- Pulsa E para llamar a un Medic si lo necesitas. Los Medics cercanos serán notificados de tu llamada.

Curiosidades
- El Engineer lleva su casco al revés. Sin embargo, esto no es una práctica rara entre los obreros.
- El Engineer raramente se quita sus gafas. La única vez que se vieron sus ojos fue en los comics Bala Perdida y Verdadero Significado.
- El Engineer diseñó y construyó la Arma Centinela bajo contrato de 'Industrias TF' en 1965. El manual oficial del juego, de hecho, es un manual de como reparar, montar y actualizar un arma centinela.

- El casco del Engineer es un objeto para la clase de Apoyo de Monday Night Combat.
- En Poker Night at the Inventory, se puede ver una imagen de la máscara de disfraz de Engineer en la carta de la Jota de Diamantes del Spy en las barajas "Poker Night" y "Poker Night Alternativo", respectivamente.
- El Engineer, junto al Pyro, el Heavy y el Medic, es una de las 4 clases que toman parte en Template:W.
