American English "superiority"

Valve is an American company. Shouldn't it be preferred?

GrampaSwood (talkcontribs)

Valve has nothing to do with the language used.

OK, so maybe I pulled that point out of my ass, but what about the difference between the amount of speakers of each English variant? There's around 400 million American English speakers compared to about 75 million British English speakers.

If both are accepted, then why revert the edit? Since AE is clearly more popular, you could have just adjusted the one other usage of "aerospace" to be consistent. (Grey Matter isn't really the same situation, since that's an official Valve achievement name.) Despite the joke I made in the edit description, I did have a reason for making the edit. I just didn't realize BE was used elsewhere on the page. My bad.

GrampaSwood (talkcontribs)

It doesn't matter how many people speak it, both English varieties are accepted on the Wiki. This is because non-native English speakers (or non-British Isle people) also may learn British English and use that when editing. Most non-US places also use a mix of British/American English, which means that some words may be used in Indian English and British English, but not American English and vice versa. It makes more sense to accept both, as long as it is consistent, than to only use one despite many English variants also using words from the "other". The page itself also uses multiple instances of aeroplane and also refers to "grey matter" (as the actual word, not achievement) with the BE spelling. AE being your preferred language is not a reason to change the language, nor is "but it's more widely used" a good reason to change it. Only if actual issues arise from using BE over AE or vice versa should it be changed. If you believe we should change this policy, open up a Discussion.

Hi,

Thanks for your contributions in the TF Wiki, every help is appreciated.

Regarind your recent edit:

  • Please keep in mind to use the official Spanish translation found in tf_spanish.txt.
    • This is in reference on you using "arma primaria" instead of "arma principal".
      • "Arma primaria" is a direct translation from the English counter-part "Primary Weapon", technically it is a correct translation, but Valve uses "arma principal" instead.

Moreover, I'd like to suggest the use of the string {{item link|"ENGLISH NAME"}}, when translating the item names with links.

For example, if you are in the Spanish (/es) section:

If you use ({{item link|Buff Banner}}), the wiki will automatically translate the name into (Estandarte de Ánimo), .

But if you want to translate just the text name, you can use {{item name|"ENGLISH NAME"}}.

Same rule applies for updates, such as {{update link|"ENGLISH NAME"}} and {{update name|"ENGLISH NAME"}}.

For further information, I suggest you on reading this.

Sorry, I wasn't aware of this. I did want to inform you that many pages still use "arma primaria" rather than "arma principal", though.

https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Force-A-Nature/es https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Baby_Face%27s_Blaster/es

These are just some examples, but I've seen it a lot. It's almost 1:1; the vast majority of pages using the phrase "primary weapon" use "arma primaria".

About the item links, is there any difference between the syntax I used and the one you are suggesting? Don't they work in the exact same way?

I appreciate the help and don't mean to argue; there are just a few things that concern me. Thanks for your time.

Yossef (talkcontribs)

Hey,

Those articles needs to be updated. Keep in mind that we follow what's already implemented in the Spanish loc file and Valve's Crowdin. Valve used "arma primaria" to refer to "primary Weapon" in the past, but later was changed and the articles weren't updated.

Regarding the syntax, same reason as mentioned above, sometimes the names change.

Eg:

With the syntax, if any future changes happen, instead of manually updating who knows how many articles, simply we can just change the dictionary once, and the syntax automatically changes all the old names.

Hi there,

When an edit of yours is reverted, you should go to the user's talk page and discuss it that way rather than constantly redoing it and having it be undone again. This is going to start constant edit wars.
GrampaSwood (talk) 20:31, 27 July 2022 (UTC)

Trashbinprod (talkcontribs)

I never redid anything but ok

Trashbinprod (talkcontribs)

Not on anything recently, at least.

GrampaSwood (talkcontribs)

You re-added the thing about 80% damage on the Cow Mangler after it was removed, you also re-added the bit about memes in the Millennial Mercenary.
GrampaSwood (talk) 10:04, 28 July 2022 (UTC)

Trashbinprod (talkcontribs)

On the Cow Mangler it was never re-added, after you or someone else changed it to the correct stat, it remained that way.

I did do that on the Millennial Mercenary, but I did put a topic on your talk page about that

GrampaSwood (talkcontribs)

https://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/index.php?title=Cow_Mangler_5000&type=revision&diff=3219306&oldid=3219094

Edit you added the stat about doing 80% less damage.

https://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/index.php?title=Cow_Mangler_5000&diff=prev&oldid=3219307

Edit where I re-added the bit about buildings (although incorrect because I misread the stat as -20% damage to buildings).

https://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/index.php?title=Cow_Mangler_5000&diff=next&oldid=3219315

Edit where you re-added the bit about doing 80% less damage (which is re-adding what was removed, rather than correcting it).

You also only put it on my talk page once I told you to.

Never said that I didn't do that. I'm just trying to get you to understand that I'm trying to follow your advice man

Trashbinprod (talkcontribs)

And the instance of me re-adding the cow mangler stat isn't "constantly redoing it and having it be undone again". I can at least learn from my mistake

GrampaSwood (talkcontribs)

Hi there,

stop removing the Ambassador link from the revolver sniper rifle. Associating the Amby with being a sniper has been a thing for a long time.
GrampaSwood (talk) 06:40, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

Trashbinprod (talkcontribs)

I'm pretty sure everyone knows that the Amby is its own item and not called "Revolver Sniper Rifle", but ok dude.

GrampaSwood (talkcontribs)

You can't be sure of that, some people play translated versions of the game and will look up English phrases like that (Speaking from experience) or simply try to describe a weapon. See Urine.

Is there any proof whatsoever for this map?

Well if there is no proof, I will remove it from the nav + remove the page.

Ok.

GrampaSwood (talkcontribs)

Please refrain from making pages that are just "This is an item, nothing is known". Also note that trivia that's talking about a mod/game having a similar item is not trivia. (As said twice before)

Hi Trashbinprod, your recent addition of trivia has been reverted because it did not meet our trivia guidelines. In short, trivia entries should...

  • ... be facts, not speculation.
  • ... be about the released content only.
  • ... not be obvious for somebody who has played Team Fortress 2 for a small amount of time.
  • ... make the reader say "Wow! I did not know that!"
  • ... not be information that belongs in other parts of the page.

For a full explanation including examples, check out our trivia style guide!
Your trivia is speculation.
