Category

Hi there,

There's no need to add the category link itself, it's already linked at the bottom.
GrampaSwood (talk) 16:59, 17 March 2022 (UTC)

i guess lol
though i think it would be more visible if the part of the page referencing its sound making properties linked to the list itself
i had no idea that the "category:items that make sound" page existed untill just now, i had just been trying to find theese items by searching the wiki for "sound" and "noise" and "jingle"
thank you so much for helping me and being patient with me btw
Jones Edison (talk) 17:08, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
Could look into figuring something out for that, similar to how Jigglebones are linked.
Also it's no issue, wiki can be complicated for new users.
GrampaSwood (talk) 17:11, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
that would be perfect!
also im trying to make another edit to "Editing Team Fortress Wiki:Discussion" and getting the "Support bot spam" error again
"Having a master category of all items with special effects would be useful, as no such list exist.
Counting "Ball-kicking boots" ball spawning effect, "handy laurel", and the "Treasure hat" generating coin particles, plus the established groups of items that relate to pyroland, and those who make noise.
Item set effects would also be a subcategory of this list"
Jones Edison (talk) 17:19, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
the lumbricus lid should be on the list of "items that make noise", and on my meta "special item list"
and my "special item list" would also contain all items that get assists in pyrovision, and possibly jigglebones
and i see that that would make my list especially long, but i guess it could be just a set of sets
so it may just be better to make a "List of item effects", with links to lists, like the "list of cosmetic items that make noise"
then you could make unusuals a subcategory of this list of item effects
Jones Edison (talk) 06:41, 23 March 2022 (UTC)
Currently this is the list of items that I've come up with so far. Items with an unusual effect that are not listed may be a separate list, but it would be a very long one with a lot of work to keep up. They won't be included in that list, as this page already lists them all.
GrampaSwood (talk) 14:33, 23 March 2022 (UTC)
This is perfect! It was pretty much exactly what i had in mind when i first suggested making such a list c:
Having the list laid out and visible like this is really practical, some of thheese effects i barely remembered existed!
I have just done some science on items that make sound as you walk, the "Bootie time" has a higher pitch when you walk than all the others, and "Elf defense" has a slightly lower pitch, barely noticable
And wearing several cosmetics seem to raise the pitch to "Bootie time"'s
I have not checked all the cosmetics with eachother, on all classes, but it seems to be the rule from what ive seen
The pitch of cosmetic jingling does not seem to vary based on class, or speed. It just happens that the fast class (scout) has a high pitch cosmetic, and the slower class (soldier) has a lower pitch cosmetic, and that pitch is on cosmetic basis, rather than on speed
I think it would be worthy of note to say that the walking sound of "Ball-kicking boots" / "Sprinting cephelapod" do stack with eachother, but the jingling sounds do not accompany eachother and stack, however they add for the pitch(???)
Also i think we should do like the page for particle effects where we just link to the page for unusuals, and the jiggbone list if we need to include such expansive list.
Having the list sorted by the nature/type of the effect, rather than class may be more neat, and digestible
Also it would be nice to somehow incorporate the Saharan spy tornado taunt effect (wich i just checked, it doesnt seem to make any sound lol) into the list, in addition to other set effects. However, information about item set effects is much easier to find than item effects, as they are all listed on the Item sets page
Again, thank you c: and thank you for making the cosmetics with effects page easy to edit

it seems like the only list of items that give you pyrovision may be a plain text string referencing each one individually--Jones Edison (talk) 00:54, 24 March 2022 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── My current idea for a proper page is to include the template, then include a See also section linking to several categories, jigglebones, and the particle effects page. I think the Pyrovision list is sufficient, as it serves its purpose equally effective as a proper list. As for set effects, this page already lists all item sets with its effects. Item sets themselves are also not items and are already covered on the item sets page. For items with noises and such there is only a category which may not be easily noticed by a regular wiki user and for items with special effects like the Ball-Kicking Boots' ball or the Lumbricus Lid's taunt/kill icon changer there is no page that documents that stuff.
GrampaSwood (talk) 13:19, 24 March 2022 (UTC)

i made my own list, with my own formatting, as i dont really understand language formatting yet, its a mess right now, and i got tired and kinda gave up on the end.
Basically the idea is that items/sets are sorted based on their effect, i think this is much more readable, even if this means that some items have to be repeated.
I also included "Items that give other players achievements for you wearing them" on the list.
I have still not made up my mind on exactly what type of "items" should and shouldnt be on the list
i debated putting use items and the spy-cicle on the list
also, i did list eliminating the impossible, and dual-purpouse fruit, despite their "effect" not actually doing anything, it still shows up in the loadout menu
--Jones Edison (talk) 03:21, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
The purpose of this list is to list items that aren't listed anywhere else yet, possibly an additional list with non-listed particle effects (Genteel Smoke items, Treasure Hat, Spy-cicle, etc.). Adding item sets would duplicate already-available information, same with items that put you in Pyroland.
GrampaSwood (talk) 12:55, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
There are just 5 cosmetics that gives the pyrovision effect, i feel like it would be nice to have them on the list, even just for completions sake. They are by definition "items that have additional effects." One of them is even unique in that it doesn't hide outside of pyrovision!
I understand not wanting to put item set effects in this list, as it would make it really complicated to know what exactly belongs on the list, and we could just put another link at the bottom saying something like "Many Item sets have similar effects."
However it is nice to be able to see clearly that there are 6 effects giving soldier additional voice responses, but i guess this is also visible in the Soldier responses "Contents" box.
Oh, and also: ive been considering adding weapons to the list, but it would kind of be dumb, techically, if you were to make a group of "weapons with effects" that would just be all of them, lol
So in summary: I don't really see a reason not to add the pyroland items, they fit by definition and they don't really clog the list imo, but other than that: Very good thank you.
Jones Edison (talk) 18:49, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
The main reason to not add Pyroland items is because they already have an organised list somewhere that can be linked to. The issue this template is meant to resolve is to have a place where items that have no real ("Real" meaning a place that isn't a category) place where they're listed. Pyrovision page could have a list that's a bit better organised, but otherwise it's already listed there and could be added as a link instead.
GrampaSwood (talk) 19:00, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
Page is live.
GrampaSwood (talk) 09:44, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
Pog. Should the pages of the cosmetics in the list link to the list? --Jones Edison (talk) 17:28, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
I'm not sure, I wouldn't know of a good way to link it and if it would even be that relevant.
