Broken links

Remove the links. They're red. Also, make the Other color the Admin color and the Admin purple the mod color. Then the Valve color Other. Get it? I'd do it, but as usual, fail phone. Smashman 02:17, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

I don't see any red links.... --Firestorm 02:18, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
The Valve guys set their own colours. I'm hesitant to modify that. -- Pilk (talk) 02:20, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
I think he's refering to he "example" and "policy" links. Darkman 4 02:20, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
Oh I see what you are saying now. Valve doesn't have their own colour except for a background. -- Pilk (talk) 02:25, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

Why did you remove the bold? Quite liked it. If not bold then put the italics back. -- Smashman... (ts) 02:37, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

I think we're probably better off avoiding anything that implies hierarchy. Every is equal in the contribution sense, just others are more trusted with elevated privileges. Essentially the colours are there so people know who to get in contact with if they need help. -- Pilk (talk) 03:43, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
I'm in favor of restoring the bold as well. -- En Ex 06:02, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
Having bolded (for extra visibility) and colored names helps better at differentiating, let's say...a mod from a bureaucrat: "Which one do I contact for group rights questions? They're all green...who's the bureaucrat?" You really should change it back the way it was -- Nystus 15:59, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Rollbacker?

Any chance of having the rollbacker usergroup (for those not familiar, rollbacker is an extra user flag that allows the user to use the Rollback tool (normally reserved for Sysops)). This is normally extended to trusted users, but given out more freely than any sysop rights would be RandomTime 00:49, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Maybe, *sniff*, Maybe. It's a good idea. -- Smashman... (ts) 00:51, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Other?

I am rather curious... What is "Other" and why is it so gloriously pink :o -- Benjamuffin Om nom nom! 21:51, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

Move Rights

In light of this recent incident, I propose restricting the right to move pages to moderators and above. I was skeptical of the benefits of allowing normal users the move privilege to begin with, and this episode only makes me more convinced that the downsides outweigh the benefits. Users in general usually just propose a move anyways, useful moves performed immediately without discussion are somewhat rare.

The user rights in question are move and move-subpages. -The Neotank ( | Talk) User The Neotank Signeotank.gif 22:43, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

Pictogram neutral.png Neutral: On one hand, then he would've replaced entire articles with "smashman sucks cock", so not much of a win there. Additionally, it was one incident, not a series - we don't remove the ability to add external links because one person spammed ad-links. On the other hand, there isn't that much non-mod moving going on. Move Log --CruelCow (talk) 22:51, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

Don't you think they should have a point system?

Ok, so after playing tf2 for a while and being on the servers, you can tell who is the baddst cat around. But sometimes its not so apparent. You all might have near the same skill level. How to fix this problem you ask? Well i got an answer. (this is not to say i dont like ur game Valve, its awesome, but) Maybe Valve could have an update that tracks points for kills. Im talkin like a lifetime point total of all my kills, just to show how good or bad people are. Five points for each kill or whatever you please, but give me some way to rank myself with an overall score against these other bozos. You could show the scores on the scoreboard when u press tab. You could even display the scores like they displayed the duel wins, when you're waiting for the server to load. Maybe even put a money value on the kills. A cent per kill, so u could earn the stuff in the store. Of course, that would make less money for steam, but if you jacked up the prices then the items would be harder to get and the lazy bums who dont do the work pay more. Just throwin some ideas up the flagpole to see if anybody salutes them. :)PS TF2 rocks! SureShot 00:41, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Use the Steam forums for this kind of discussion. -- OluapPlayer (t) Howdy, pardner! 00:44, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Staff people. Let me say one thing.

How about a little tournament? It would be good if we made a Team Fortress Wiki Tournament. I have had this idea since the finals of the ETF2L Highlander Tournament and it could be fun to have a gathering of users playing against each other in the Wiki server. Call it a event. I would like to have some response on my talk section or invite me for a little chat on the IRC to discuss about this. Stunned.png TheNobleScout 02:04, 16 September 2011 (PDT)

[Offtop] Different links in the logo depending on the selected language page

Hi! Please tell me how you managed to change the link address depending on the selected language of the page? If I use Russian language --> the link changes Main_Page/ru, if the French --> Main_Page/fr

I break your head over it for about a month and can't do the same. Help me please.

Nicolayka (talk) 07:33, 22 October 2017 (PDT)

I think you may be talking about {{if lang}}, or Template:if lang. Check out the documentation for more. It's a real handy little template. ⇒Leaderboard class spy.png Anyar (talk/contributions/giveaway) 07:35, 22 October 2017 (PDT)

I saw this template, but I really don't understand how you manage to change the url of the page when you hover on the logo "wiki logo.png" depending on the page language. I don't even know where to write {if lang} to change the address on the logo. I just don't have anyone even to ask... Nicolayka (talk) 13:39, 22 October 2017 (PDT)

You're asking about technical help likely related to the website's design. I can't help you with that, though I can note that clicking the logo acts very similarly clicking a link for [[Main Page{{if lang}}]]. ⇒Leaderboard class spy.png Anyar (talk/contributions/giveaway) 14:05, 22 October 2017 (PDT)

Yes! Only where it is written... in what file or template Nicolayka (talk) 14:37, 22 October 2017 (PDT)

I dunno. Might not even be using an actual template. You can try comparing [view-source:https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Main_Page source] [view-source:https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Main_Page/zh-hans files], or just ask someone at our IRC and hope they know. ⇒Leaderboard class spy.png Anyar (talk/contributions/giveaway) 16:14, 22 October 2017 (PDT)

"Retired staff"

I think this section could be slightly reworded. Not all staff members who got retired were due to inactivity, which was my case where I decided to no longer be one... As for me, while I don't edit or contribute as much as before, I still do from time to time. There could be other people who simply chose to retire being a staff member but not necessarily due to inactivity. help! is this even the right place to post this?

im trying to make a new post under "Editing Team Fortress Wiki:Discussion" but i get the error message: "This action has been automatically identified as harmful, and therefore disallowed. If you believe your action was constructive, please inform an administrator of what you were trying to do. A brief description of the abuse rule which your action matched is: Support bot spam" Jones Edison (talk) 16:05, 17 March 2022 (UTC)

This is not the right place, however, you likely have a link in the edit which stops you from being able to post it.
GrampaSwood (talk) 16:07, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
the post im trying to make
Subject:
I think there should be a page listing and describing cosmetic item effects
it would be nice to have a list of all "special" cosmetics items, and what effects they have,
like say you listed "Elf ignition, Jolly jingler, Elf care provider, Elf defense, Seasonal employee, Bootie time, Jingle belt, Reindeerobeanie, Elf-made bandanna"
as "items that make a jingle sound on walking"
and having all cosmetics that give you pyrovision under a pyrovision effect tab
"ball-kicking boots" would be "spawns a ball"
it would just be nice having all theese cosmetics with special effects listed under a page, as there is no such page/list now
also i do not know much about editing wikis, and creating new pages, and i dont want to do edit a bunch of pages and end up doing more harm than good, if my idea is not good
Jones Edison (talk) 16:24, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
the reason i thought this was the right place was because under "User talk:Jones Edison" it says "If you have any questions or need any help, please feel free to leave a message for a staff member.", linking to this page
by the way thank you for trying to help
Jones Edison (talk) 16:24, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
It's more meant for you to contact a staff member on their talk page, but I understand the confusion, I've moved the discussion over to the proper page now (with appropriate response).

Blacklisted links

Hello! I was trying to update the articles Top Notch and Top Notch/pt-br to fix some invalid links, replacing them with links from web.archive.org. But when I try to save the change, I get an error saying there are blacklisted links. How can I proceed?
I apologize if this is not the right section, but I had no idea where to post and this talk page seemed the most appropriate, since it talks about permissions. Tiagoquix (talk) 05:28, 19 August 2022 (UTC)

When in doubt, you can always post to Team_Fortress_Wiki:Discussion. I believe tumblr is on our disallowed links list (MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist) although the list is basically unreadable.
I don't have permission to edit the list, but from the history, User:Lagg does -- I would ask on their talkpage to see about changing the tumblr filter to allow archive.org links to tumblr pages.
Darkid « TalkContribs » 12:32, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
Added links with credit to User:Tiagoquix. I have personal issues with any social media links here when not needed tho so I'm leaving it in blacklist until people agree it's needed. -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 13:41, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
Removed tumblr from blacklist for realsies because I just noticed we're allowing other stuff globally too now, and the Top Notch loc pages are outdated. Sry for indecisiveness. -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 14:00, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
I was just picturing that you'd change the regex to have a negative lookbehind, so that we excluded tumblr links that were actually archive.org links, like this:
(?<!archive.org).*?tumblr
but removing it entirely works too, I guess. Darkid « TalkContribs » 15:08, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
Every time I try to do basic RE with this thing let alone PCRE it doesn't work. I'll drop that in if it becomes an issue though. -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 15:11, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
Pictogram tick.png Done — Thank you for the help, kind people! Tiagoquix (talk) 17:28, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
