Help with Translation

https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Attendant/pt There are a boat load of non-existent pages in pt. I don't know how to translate it so I was led here. Thank you ahead of time chief -Murph The preceding unsigned comment was added by Murph0981 (talk) • (contribs) 03:52, 28 June 2020 (UTC)

Hey, I'm aware of it and I'll eventually update them :) Thanks! Mgpt (talk) 12:24, 28 June 2020 (UTC)

Tournament Medal Dictionary Entries

Why did you get rid of a lot of dictionary entries for tournament medals? This breaks a multitude of things, such as my Self-Made item list rework. I see that a lot of entries got renamed, but some, such as the UGC Highlander Platinum 1st Place medal, are just completely gone. Please fix this. ~ Boba 20:28, 14 July 2021 (UTC)

Hi, I fixed most of the tournament medal pages with red links after my edit. I checked now and probably there's a few more pages but it can be easily fixed with the updated name. I will add the missing names to the dictionary in order soon. Sorry :/ Mgpt (talk) 21:01, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
You're all good, I was just wondering why some of the tournament medal names were completely gone from the dictionary. Thanks. ~ Boba 21:03, 14 July 2021 (UTC)

Ever since I joined this wiki (About 6 months ago), I alway saw you spamming the recent changes with a never ending stream of small corrections here and there. Wheter that be fixing random grammar mistakes, correcting information inside an item's infobox, moving a file to a proper page, adding missing categories and replacing wrong ones etc. Seems to me that you're the Wiki's "go to guy" for fixing mistakes noone notices. And because of that, you deserve this award chief.

Unused redirects

Hey, please stop marking redirects with no external links for deletion. They are not harming anything (as long as they don't redirect to a redlink) and removing them only takes more time from the moderators. Darkid « TalkContribs » 01:25, 19 December 2021 (UTC)

Adding new availability strings

Re: your ask on IRC:
It's a little hard to just add two-word avail strings, because the order of "Purchase" and "(expired)" may not be the same in all languages. The best solution is for you to create a dictionary entry for the availability (see, for example, craft-expired inside the availability names section.)
Then, once you feel confident in the dictionary entry wording, and the name of the template parameter, sandbox your changes:

  1. Copy the current contents of Module:Availability into Module:Availability/Sandbox
  2. Add your new string into the main 'switch statement' (called lookup) by copy/pasting the craft-expired row.
  3. Update the docs (Module:Availability/doc) to add your new availabilities
    1. On the docs page, add new table entries for your new string(s)
    2. On the docs page, replace #invoke:Availability with #invoke:Availability/Sandbox
    3. Use 'show preview' to verify that your changes look good
    4. Restore the calls to #invoke:Availability (including your new strings, which will be broken!)
    5. Save the docs page
  4. Reply here (I am now watching this page)
  5. I will copy your changes from the sandbox into the main module

Hello, Tark helped me and created the strings (purchase-halloween-expired/hauntedgift), they're working now. Thanks :D Mgpt (talk) 23:20, 11 January 2022 (UTC)

Template:Dictionary Style Southern

Saw your edit: "(→‎Cosmetic styles: This style is unique, while North Pole is used in 4 cosmetics)" ;; i find your argument good and bad. for the default language it works. but in my language southern is translated as classic since southern doesn't make sense in that context. but if there is ever anything related to Southern then it would have different translation possibilities. and that is why i added the specifics for this item => southern - train of thought ;; yours works fine but i just wanted it to be specified for the item so other items could have the same word but different translation in other languages. Magicalpony (talk) 13:24, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

Hi, the "Southern" string is just for the Train Of Thought cosmetic, so you don't need to add the name of cosmetic to the string, it is in the "cosmetic styles" section for a reason. For example, if TF2 ever gets a cosmetic with the same style, then we have to create the "southern - train of thought" string in the "cosmetic styles - duplicate" section. At the moment it is just being used in the cosmetic page. You can also check the official translations in /tf/resource/tf_#.txt, or you can visit the Valve Crowdin website. regarding item name styles template

Hello Mgpt,

I am the main editor of the most pages you edited item name styles template.

The reason item name styles template are being used is just simply to display the "styles" in Chinese and add a link. This is being used in lot of pages. In earlier days there is discussions about changing "styles" zh-hans translation both in game and in wiki, although this eventurally did not happen, but the usage of item name styles are still being used, just in case anytime in the future the translation for "styles" in zh-hans is changed.

If you would like to change this, you can change them to styles and similar thing for links. Please do not remove them as that breaks the sentence.

If you have further questions, reply here or leave me a message on my talk page.

Thanks, --AlexT 22:33, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

Hello, the best is to use styles in the "Styles section" instead of item name. In the styles paragraph "This cosmetic item has x styles... etc, etc", you should use name or styles. I will fix the pages that still have errors, thanks :D Mgpt (talk) 23:01, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
I noticed sniper, cosmetic items are also being used, should be sniper for the name and name for the link. cosmetic items -> cosmetic items This whole use of item name/common string, I don't think its necessary. The common strings should be mainly meant for the sections and not to be used with the text, that's what makes sense to me, the same thing applies to cosmetic items/sniper, which would be for templates. Mgpt (talk) 23:57, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
Today I just translated all new cosmetics in recent Scream Fortress update, I used styles in all of them, and used scout to avoid class link scout, however unlucky I tried scout for "class name" and found out there's no such thing, and I did not know there is scout. I try to use templates to replace all special noun because:
  • There are unlimited ways to translate one thing in zh-hans, they are hard to remember and easy to confuse, it is time consuming to look them up every time, so I use templates to unify the word usages.
  • Typing in zh-hans is hard and easy to make errors for all these special noun, especially for wiki internal links, using keyboard shortcuts to quickly type a template that does the same thing is much better.
I use regex to match and substitute contents to reduce repetitive works in translation since like last 5 or 6 big updates? I would say there are over 100 pages using styles, hope it is not too much work! In early days I just simply replace them to things like styles and it works great till today, so I guess it is time to update my code. I will still use templates in main contents for the above reasons. but I will try to substitute item name and item link to other templates for unneeded things in the future, and for cosmetic names/links or styles names these are not being changed from using item name and item link, since there's no templates substitutions for them. Thanks.--AlexT 02:25, 11 October 2022 (UTC)

Template:Scream Fortress 2022 Unusual effects

Hey, just wanted to say thanks for your help fixing up the table on this page. Couldn't for the life of me figure out why the column spans weren't working properly (despite a WHILE messing around with the preview tool), so I appreciate your help. Hope you're doing well!

Fire Breather status

i have multiple fire breathers and can confirm it doesn't apply any equip region properly Firekip (talk) 22:01, 23 October 2022 (UTC)

Hello, you shouldn't remove the equip regions from the page, they can be seen in tf/scripts/items/items_game.txt. I think you could add that information to the page (Bugs section) if its only with the Fire Breather cosmetic, but I'm not sure, Sorry. Mgpt (talk) 01:16, 24 October 2022 (UTC)
The same happens with the Avian Amante, likely due to the same issue of incorrectly setting up multiple equip regions.
