:::: Winter map is worse than both of those. I'd honestly rather have Smissmas map than Winter map (although I still stand by Christmas map unless Halloween map is moved). Christmas map or Smissmas map?

So clearly there's been a bit of an issue with this name and people moving it back and forth without proper discussion. So I thought I'd start one.

Personally I'm in favour of Smissmas map, while Scream Fortress is the name of the update for Halloween, it's more consistently referred to as Halloween in the game. For example, it's called a Halloween restriction and not a Scream Fortress restriction. Multiple voice lines refer to it as Halloween. The only reference to Scream Fortress is Valve's own blog posts.

While Christmas is more consistently referred to as Smissmas. For example, the Festive Huntsman's tag refers to it as Smissmas, A Smissmas Story refers to both Christmas and Smissmas. To me, this implies that both Christmas and Smissmas are, in fact, separate holidays. Australia celebrating Christmas (See Australian Christmas 2011), while the US (Based on Soldier saying Smissmas) celebrates Smissmas.

To me, it makes more sense that they're called Smissmas maps, because that is what the game overwhelmingly uses.

It doesn't "overwhelmingly use" either, because this is a new thing since 2020. Also, the difference is that yes it's a Halloween map because "Scream Fortress" isn't a holiday and it has halloweeny elements. These maps are about Christmas (that said, you could make the argument that some of them are only about winter, but that's often just laziness on the developers part, there are very clearly Christmas elements in most of them. Like how some Halloween maps are just the same map but darker; again, laziness, doesn't make the theme not Halloween). I don't see why Smissmas maps are somehow more special, when it would be less so infact. Naleksuh (talk) 17:09, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
It's worth pointing out that since the Australian Christmas update, "Christmas" events are exclusively called "Smissmas". This even coincides with Old Nick, the Spirit of Australian Christmas, dying in the events of A Smissmas Story.
This does not apply to Scream Fortress, where the word "Halloween" is widely used to refer to the overall theme and in-game event.
This page should be named either Smissmas map, Holiday map or Winter map. I prefer Winter map. — Tark 18:00, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
Winter map is worse than both of those. I'd honestly rather have Smissmas map than Winter map (although I still stand by Christmas map unless Halloween map is moved). Also, it's misleading because stuff like Coldfront is a winter-based map, but isn't a Smissmas map. Naleksuh (talk) 02:37, 8 December 2021 (UTC)
