メディーバルモードは2010年12月17日 パッチのAustralian ChristmasのイベントでTeam Fortress 2に追加されたゲームモードです。

現在、公式マップでこのモードを遊べるのは、DeGroot Keepのみです。ゲームモードの特徴として選んだすべての武器を使えず-許された武器に反して使える武器が近接武器を中心とした限られたものしか無いことです。ゲームモードの目的はコントロールポイントゲームと同様に、攻撃側が相手チームのCPをすべて奪い防衛側は時間までCPの奪取を防衛することです。現在の公式マップのみ、攻撃側が最初の2つのCPを奪取しないと最終CPへのルートを塞ぐ門が開かず、その上、開門から一定時間内に最終CPが奪えず決着が付けられなかった場合、再び門が閉じられてしまい全CPが元の状態に戻ってしまうので攻撃側はもう一度最初のCP2つを奪取し直さなければなりません。

ゲームプレイのメカニック

• プレイヤーは死亡時に武器の代わりに小ヘルスキットをドロップします。
  • スカウトのCandy Caneを使ってキルすれば2個ドロップします
• Ubersawを使ってもメディックのユーバーチャージメーターは増加しません。
• プレイヤーはグラフィックスタイルとクラスのメカニックの体力を元にした例外を除き、近接武器に制限されます。
• sv_cheatsのコンソールコマンドを有効にしなくてもコマンドtf_medieval_thirdperson 1を使って三人称視点モードで遊べます。
  • 他のモードの三人称視点とは異なり、プレイヤーキャラの頭越しではなく肩越しの視点になります。

• サーバーの管理人は tf_medieval_autorp の設定を 0 にすることでこの機能をオフにすることができます。
• SourceModのコマンドに使われる「!」や「/」の後に続くテキストチャットは、自動変換の対象になりません。
• このチャット変換の定義はautorp.txtに記されています。
• Team Fortress 2のほとんどのテキストと違い、チャットの構文解析は他の言語を英語に翻訳しません。

• [非公開] メディーバルモードのマップでアイテムセットボーナスが適用させることができたのを修正した。おそらくセットボーナス用のitem_whitelist設定の副作用によるものだと思われる。

2011年5月25日 パッチ

• Concherorとフィッシュケーキがメディーバルモードで使えるようになった。

2011年6月27日 パッチ

• Splendid Screen、Ali Baba's Wee Booties、Mantreadsがメディーバルモードで使えるようになった。

2011年11月7日 パッチ

• [非公開] Bootleggerがメディーバルモードで使えるようになった。

• 「今すぐ遊ぶ」の「その他」ゲームモードにメディーバルマップを追加した。

トリビア

• リリースページでは、中世の時代に存在したTeam Fortress 2のキャラクターという設定で、ソルジャーが「[ただ単に]魔術師を怒らせた」という説明が書かれています。これは、"A wizard did it（魔術師の仕業）"という有名な比喩表現をネタにしたもので、作品の著者による設定の穴を合理化するために熱狂的ファンがよく使っている言葉の表現です。
  • その魔術師とはベリースケアリー ハロウィーンスペシャルのWebコミック内に登場した魔術師メラスマスのことで、REDソルジャーの同居人になっていたのでした。
