Meet the Medic
MedicVidSplash.png

A Teutonic man of medicine with a rather tenuous adherence to medical ethics, the Medic is nonetheless the primary healing class of the team. As the Medic doesn't possess the best arsenal for straight-up gunplay, he can typically be found near the front-lines, healing wounded teammates while trying to stay out of trouble. While his Medigun is focused on an ally, wounded teammates will quickly regain health, while unharmed teammates' health will be temporarily topped up. While healing, the Medic's ÜberCharge bar will fill up until the weapon begins to crackle, at which point he can activate a deadly charge that either makes himself and an ally temporarily invulnerable or gives his patient 100% critical shots for up to 8 seconds.

The Medic is the only class capable of regenerating health over time; the longer a Medic stays out of combat, the faster his health will recover. A damaged Medic will regenerate health at a rate of 3 HP per second, which scales up over the following ten seconds to a maximum of 6 HP per second, (though carrying the Blutsauger reduces the regeneration rate from 3-6 to 1-4.)

Basic Strategy

Medicava.jpg
  • Use your Medigun or Kritzkrieg to heal teammates, and buff them up to 150% of their normal health. The more you heal, the closer you will get to a 100% percent charge on your secondary item.
  • If using the Medigun, hit Attack 2 to go invulnerable. Your ÜberCharge makes both you and your Medigun target invulnerable for eight seconds. You may also choose to split the charge among more teammates, but bear in mind that the charge will run out faster.
  • If using the Kritzkrieg, note that you will charge 25% faster and ensure eight seconds of critical hits when hitting Attack 2 instead of invulnerability.
  • You fill your ÜberCharge faster by healing teammates with lower HP.
  • Keep alert for teammates calling for your help. Use the Medic arrows onscreen to find them. You may also activate an Auto Calling option at the options menu.
  • Learn to bend your medic beam around corners to stay out of splash damage range.
  • Medic auto-call is located in your options menu. The options allows you to select how much damage your team-mates can take until they automatically call out for medic, indicated by a unique chime. The range is from 0%-100%.

Trivia

Medic mm.jpg
  • The Medic, along with the Pyro, did not receive a job description and motto in Trailer 2, though the trailer for the canceled Black Box does feature footage of him firing his syringe gun in the beta 2fort (0:36-0:43)[1].
  • The Medic is the only class not to receive a taunt attack in his own update, however one of his taunts was later altered to heal him. He then received an actual taunt kill in a later update, making Medic the only class with two taunts that have an effect.
  • If a Medic is killed while having an ÜberCharge prepared but undeployed, his ragdoll will be surrounded by electricity.
  • The Medic is voiced by Robin Atkin Downes, who also voiced Travis Touchdown in the Wii action game No More Heroes, among many other roles.
  • According to one of the Demoman's domination lines, the Medic has a wife. Whether the Demoman is a reliable source of information is a different question entirely.
  • The Medic is the only class who wears glasses for eyesight reasons.
  • The Medic, along with the Pyro and the Engineer, are the only classes who have not received any new lines, either in-game or in the Meet the Team videos, since the game was released. The Medic and the Pyro are the only characters who did not receive new voice responses during their class update.
  • Although he lived through the Second World War, and his bio hints at a dark past, Valve have stated that the Medic is not a former Nazi, although his character is obviously inspired by sadistic, WW2 Nazi scientists and the Soldier thinks the (enemy) Medic is a Nazi.
  • The Medic and the Spy are the only classes with three hats, excluding hats for all classes and community hats, they, the Soldier and Pyro are so far the only classes to obtain a misc item.
  • The Medic was the first class to receive an update. Originally, players had to unlock every single Medic achievement to receive the Übersaw; the backlash from this, coupled with the difficulty of some of the Medic achievements, was one of the reasons why the item drop system was introduced and the achievement requirement lowered.
  • There are two unused voice commands for calling the Medic. 1 2 These were most likely temporary sounds during testing, or from the canceled version of TF2, where it was much more realistic and military themed.
  • Out of all the classes, the Medic speaks the most in a language other than English. About half his dialogue is German, although the way he uses his native language often seems out of place, and he sometimes structures sentences oddly (as in instead of saying "Stop losing" he says "Losing is verboten" ('forbidden' in German). His accent also sometimes sounds odd, and he will occasionally pronounce words incorrectly.
  • Ironically, the Medic seems to be the only class besides the Engineer without a liable health problem. The Heavy is overweight, the Scout has possible radiation poisoning (from Bonk), the Soldier's rocket jumping (i.e. leg fracturing) and extremely poor mental health, the Pyro's asbestos-lined suit (and similar poor mental health), the Demoman's alchoholism and smoking, the Sniper's impeding kidney failure, and the Spy is a casual smoker. Yet, the Medic so far seems to be completely sober, aside maybe from his mental health and sadism, traits that all the classes seem to exhibit to some degree.
  • The Medic's version of the Mildly disturbing Halloween mask has a huge ghoulish face with stitches on its forehead, a reference to Frankenstein's monster and the Medic's slight mad scientist nature.
  • On the group picture that the camera in every Meet the Team trailer zooms out of at the end accompanied by the ending flourish, the Medic is the only Support class wielding a melee weapon.
  • The Medic has the most total achievements, with 37.
  • The Medic is the only class with his own class-specific voice command.
