A vintage gas station pump combined with a car muffler and an antique fire extinguisher provide the Pyro with all of his burning needs. A portable stove top burner provides 4 ignition sources.
Degreaser publicity blurb

The Degreaser is a community-created primary weapon for the Pyro. It is a makeshift flamethrower that is comprised of a gas pump, a car muffler, an exhaust pipe, a team-colored fire extinguisher, and a stove top burner.

The Degreaser reduces the delay caused by weapon switching from or to this weapon. Specifically, it takes 60% less time to switch to the Degreaser and 30% less time to switch away, which facilitates strategic use of weapon combos. However, damage caused by afterburn damage is reduced by 66%.

The Degreaser, like the Flame Thrower, Backburner, Rainblower, and Dragon's Fury, has the compression blast ability. However, using the compression blast costs 25 ammo instead of the default Flame Thrower's 20.

Afterburn reduces healing and shield resists from a Medi Gun by 20%.

Bugs

  • Rarely, when the Degreaser is turned off during full crits, the flame effect can still be seen. Unlike a similar bug with the Minigun, the "flame" can only be seen by the player.
  • The attribute -66% afterburn damage penalty also applies to any reflected projectile's afterburn such as Flare Gun, despite it normally doing full afterburn damage.
  • If the Degreaser is deployed for less than half of a second, the player does not receive the holster bonus after switching off to another weapon.
  • The Degreaser can be inspected while being fired.

Trivia

  • Degreasers are emulsifying agents used to remove heavy oils and grease; since flames consume fats easily, it can be called a literal type of "degreaser".
    • Degreasers are a notorious fire hazard, and through the 1960s, gasoline stored in covered basins was the standard degreaser used when repairing cars at gas stations.
