The following guidelines dictate the notability of Custom maps on the Team Fortress Wiki. It is intended to evaluate a map's familiarity and notability within the Team Fortress community, and thus the note-worthiness of said map.

Official Recognition
Any map that receives recognition from the TF2 Official Website is considered notable.

The first and most common procedure is to visit the map usage stats over at TF2Stats.net and search for the map in question. From here there are a number of ways in which to find a map's notability, such as:
- Finding whether it is on the top 100/200/500/etc most played maps
- Establishing how many servers use the map daily
- Establishing how many people play the map daily
Users should note that using this technique maybe unreliable method, particularly if they are disproving its notoriety, as custom maps will change names as they are updated (e.g. cp_tfwiki_b1 --> cp_tfwiki_b2) and so, particularly with maps which are rapidly updated, non-"stable" versions of maps have little time to establish themselves on such lists.
Contests
A number of TF2 mapping websites, notably TF2maps.net, regularly do mapping contests. Highly regarded/ranked (numbers yet to be established although top 10 seems reasonable enough) entries are considered to have some weight towards their inclusion in the wiki.
Use in competitions
Separate from map contents, usage in competitions may also be considered grounds for notability. A number of competitive TF2 leagues actively participate in adding custom maps to their map pool (Gullywash and Obscure) are good examples). Some editors, however, may have little care for what occurs in competitive TF2 and so users justifying a maps existence on the wiki using this argument should try and back up their case from another angle.
Conflict of interest
Map authors should also refrain from editing articles for maps they have created or significantly contributed to, in the interest of keeping the articles neutral.
